Griffith University Courses

To be eligible for admission to the Master of Advanced Nursing Practice, applicants must hold:

• a Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent degree from a recognised University (or another tertiary education institution of equivalent standing) and a GPA of 4 or above AND
• current or temporary unrestricted registration as a nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  OR
• a Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma or Masters qualification in nursing or a related area (students admitted with one of these qualifications may be eligible for credit depending upon the courses completed in the prior qualification) AND
• current or temporary unrestricted registration as a nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

Additional admission requirements

• Critical Care Nursing specialisation:
  • Applicants must be working with critical care presentations for a minimum of two days per week.
• Emergency Nursing specialisation:
  • Applicants must be working with emergency presentations for a minimum of two days per week.

To be eligible for admission to the Master of Education, applicants must have:

• a Bachelor degree in non-related discipline from a recognised tertiary institution.
  OR
• a Bachelor of Education or Bachelor of Education (Honours) or Graduate Diploma of Education or Master of Teaching or an ACER Graduate Certificate in Education - Assessment of Student Learning or a Bachelor degree in a related discipline (for example, in Learning and Development) from a recognised tertiary institution - these students will be eligible for 40 credit points of advanced standing.
  OR
• have a combination of alternative admission criteria such as formal, informal and non-formal learning deemed to be equivalent to the above - these students may be eligible for up to 40 credit points of credit.

To be eligible for admission to the Graduate Certificate in Global Development, a student must:

• hold any Bachelor degree (or higher) from a recognised University (or another tertiary education institution of equivalent standing) with a minimum GPA of 4.0 (using a 7.0 scale) OR
• have a minimum of three years equivalent full-time professional work or relevant work experience
• have a combination of alternative admission criteria such as formal, informal and non-formal learning deemed to be equivalent to either of the above.

To be eligible for admission to the Master of Public Administration, a student must:

• hold a related Bachelor degree (or higher) from a recognised University (or another tertiary education institution of equivalent standing) with a minimum GPA of 4.5 (using a 7.0 scale), OR
• hold a Griffith Graduate Certificate in Policy Analysis (or equivalent) with a minimum GPA of 4.5 (using a 7.0 scale). Students with a Griffith Graduate Certificate in Policy Analysis will receive 40 credit points of advanced standing, OR
• hold a Griffith Graduate Certificate in Integrity and Anti-Corruption (or equivalent) with a minimum GPA of 4.5 (using a 7.0 scale). Students with a Griffith Graduate Certificate in Integrity and Anti-Corruption will receive 40 credit points of advanced standing, OR
• have a combination of alternative admission criteria such as formal, informal and non-formal learning deemed to be equivalent to one of the above.

Admission to the Graduate Diploma of Clinical Physiology will require an approved bachelors degree in science in the clinical physiology discipline as described below.

Students will hold an appropriate bachelor degree in third year level human physiology or physiology and electronics instrumentation and computing with a GPA of at least 5.0 or other equivalent qualifications and/or experience which, in the opinion of the Program Director, provides adequate background knowledge to undertake the program.

Applicants will be required to undertake an interview (in person or by teleconference) for admission to this program.

The admission requirements for the Master of Aviation Management are:

• The Graduate Certificate in Aviation Management
• OR a bachelor degree with at least a GPA of 5.0 in the same discipline, being `Business and Management' from a recognised tertiary institution AND at least 3 years work experience at a supervisory or management level
• OR a bachelor degree with at least a GPA of 5.0 that has aviation/aerospace as the major area of study from a recognised tertiary institution. e.g. Bachelor of Engineering (Aerospace); Bachelor of Aviation AND at least 3 years work experience at a supervisory or management level.

Students who have completed the Graduate Certificate in Aviation Management will be eligible for 40 Credit Points of advanced standing towards the Master of Aviation Management.

To be eligible for admission to the Master of Applied Behaviour Analysis, applicants must have:

• completed a Bachelor degree in a related area with a GPA of at least 4.0 (using a 7 point scale) - examples include Speech Pathology, Psychology, Education, Human Services, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Nutrition and Dietetics, Exercise Science and Medicine.
• OR completed the Graduate Certificate in Applied Behaviour Analysis (3363) with a GPA of at least 4.0 (using a 7 point scale) - students admitted via this pathway will be eligible for 40 credit points of advanced standing for the courses completed in the Graduate Certificate.
• OR completed a suitable qualification (Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma or Bachelor Honours degree) in a related area with a GPA of at least 4.0 (using a 7 point scale) - examples include Speech Pathology, Psychology, Education, Autism Studies, Disability Studies, Human Services, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Nutrition and Dietetics, Rehabilitation Counselling, Exercise Physiology and Medicine (students admitted with these qualifications may be eligible for up to 40 credit points of credit).

To be eligible for admission to the Graduate Diploma of Australian Migration Law and Practice, an applicant must hold:

• a Bachelor degree in any discipline from a recognised University (or another tertiary education institution of equivalent standing) with a minimum GPA of 4.0 (on a 7-point scale) OR
• a Graduate Certificate in Australian Migration Law and Practice with a minimum GPA of 4.0 (on a 7-point scale).

Where an applicant holds a Bachelor degree but does not have a minimum GPA of 4.0, they may (in selected circumstances) apply to waive the GPA requirement on the basis of five years work experience in a related field. In these circumstances, the applicant must supply evidence of relevant professional registration or vocational experience in a related field. Such applicants, who will normally have worked in middle management positions for a minimum of five years, will be required to provide references from their employers attesting to their ability to complete the program. In these cases, the Program Director will make the final decision and must be satisfied as to the applicant's ability to complete such a program of study

To be eligible for admission to the Graduate Diploma of Health Research, a student must:

• hold an undergraduate degree in a Health related discipline from a recognised University (or another tertiary education institution of equivalent standing) with a minimum GPA of 5.0 (using a 7.0 point scale) over the last two years of the Bachelor degree, or
• hold a Masters degree in a related Health discipline from a recognised University (or another tertiary education institution of equivalent standing)

As a condition of acceptance into the program, students are required to find a suitable supervisor and have their research project approved by the supervisor and Program Director. Students requiring assistance in finding a suitable supervisor should contact the appropriate School Advisor. The School Advisor will be responsible for assessing and recommending applications for admission into the program, approve plans for courses of study, and act as the nominated student contact for concerns and issues that arise. The Program Director will have final approval for admissions into the program.

To be eligible for admission to Master of Civil Engineering, a student must hold:

• a Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent three year or four year Civil Engineering undergraduate degree from a recognised university (or another tertiary education institution of equivalent standing)
• OR a Bachelor Honours degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent four year Civil Engineering undergraduate degree from a recognised university (or another tertiary education institution of equivalent standing)
• OR a Graduate Certificate in Civil Engineering.

Students admitted to the program with a Bachelor Honours degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent four year Civil Engineering undergraduate degree or a Graduate Certificate in Civil Engineering will be eligible for 40 credit points of advanced standing towards the program. Trimester 2 entry is only available to students admitted with advanced standing.

Note: Only graduates of civil engineering will be admitted to this program due to its focus on technical design. The program is, therefore, not suitable to other engineering graduates.

To be eligible for admission to the Graduate Diploma of Integrated Water Management, applicants must hold:

• a Bachelor degree in a field relevant to water management OR a Graduate Certificate in Integrated Water Management;
• a minimum of one year practical experience in a related field.

Students admitted to the program with a Graduate Certificate in Integrated Water Management will be eligible for 40 credit points of advanced standing towards the program. Further credit in addition to that awarded on the basis of advanced standing is not available.

For admission to the Master of Education and Professional Studies Research, an applicant is required to hold:

• a postgraduate qualification with a GPA of at least 5.0 in a related discipline
• OR a bachelor degree with at least Second Class Honours (Division B) in a related discipline.

In addition to the academic qualifications required for candidature as described above, the following criteria need to be satisfied for admission:

• the proposed topic is appropriate for higher degree research and consonant with the academic aims and objectives of the School of Education and Professional Studies;
• the School of Education and Professional Studies is able to provide the necessary research place, supervision, resources and facilities and there is an appropriate fit between the applicant, research environment, available resources and supervision;
• there are two qualified members of staff holding confirmed, continuing or fixed-term appointments of sufficient length for the purposes of supervision;
• the proposed program of work can be completed within the maximum period of candidature for the degree;
• the proposed research does not reproduce research that has previously been submitted for the award of a degree or diploma;
• the proposed program conforms to the University's ethical guidelines on research involving humans and animals;
• where the intellectual property rights of the applicant may be a consideration, a suitable agreement protecting the rights of the student has been signed - should a student be unwilling to sign an agreement, the research proposal may not be approved and the student may be required to choose another program of study;
• the provision of educational services consequent upon approval of the application for candidature will not expose the University to a risk of contravening any applicable law including any international embargoes, sanctions or controls which regulate the University's operations from time to time.
