This program provides students with advanced study across the breadth of specialisations in Civil Engineering. It is designed to extend and deepen the knowledge and skills gained from an undergraduate degree in civil engineering.
Entry Requirements

To be eligible for admission to Master of Civil Engineering Advanced, a student must hold:

  • a Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent three year or four year Civil Engineering undergraduate degree from a recognised university (or another tertiary education institution of equivalent standing)
  • OR a Bachelor Honours degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent four year Civil Engineering undergraduate degree from a recognised university (or another tertiary education institution of equivalent standing)
  • OR a Graduate Certificate in Civil Engineering.

Students admitted to the program with a Bachelor Honours degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent four year Engineering undergraduate degree or a Graduate Certificate in Civil Engineering will be eligible for 40 credit points of advanced standing towards the program. The following degrees are considered to be equivalent to a Bachelor honours degree in Engineering:

  • four year Engineering undergraduate degree that includes a significant final year research project component (i.e. one semester thesis) from an Australian university
  • four year Engineering undergraduate degree that includes a significant final year research project component (i.e. one semester thesis) from a NOOSR Section 1 University.

Students currently enrolled in the Master of Civil Engineering (5642) will be eligible to transfer to the Master of Civil Engineering Advanced prior to graduation. Graduates of the Master of Civil Engineering (5642) are not eligible for admission to this program.

Entry Requirements

For admission to the Master of Arts Research, an applicant is required to hold:

  • a postgraduate qualification with a GPA of at least 5.0 in a related discipline
  • OR a Bachelor degree with at least Second Class Honours (Division B) in a related discipline.

In addition to the academic qualifications required for candidature as described in above, the following criteria need to be satisfied for admission:

  • the proposed topic is appropriate for higher degree research and consonant with the academic aims and objectives of the School of Humanities, Languages and Social Science.
  • the School of Humanities, Languages and Social Science is able to provide the necessary research place, supervision, resources and facilities; and there is an appropriate fit between the applicant, research environment, available resources and supervision.
  • there are two qualified members of staff holding confirmed, continuing or fixed-term appointments of sufficient length for the purposes of supervision.
  • the proposed program of work can be completed within the maximum period of candidature for the degree.
  • the proposed research does not reproduce research that has previously been submitted for the award of a degree or diploma.
  • the proposed program conforms to the University's ethical guidelines on research involving humans and animals.
  • where the intellectual property rights of the applicant may be a consideration, a suitable agreement protecting the rights of the student has been signed. Should a student be unwilling to sign an agreement, the research proposal may not be approved and the student may be required to choose another program of study.
  • the provision of educational services consequent upon approval of the application for candidature will not expose the University to a risk of contravening any applicable law, including any international embargoes, sanctions or controls which regulate the University's operations from time to time.

The Graduate Diploma of Research Studies in Engineering is an 80 credit point program that provides an alternative route for entry into a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) program for applicants who do not possess the required qualifications for direct admission.

To be eligible for admission to the Graduate Diploma of Research Studies in Engineering, a student must:

  • hold an undergraduate degree in a related discipline from a recognised University (or another tertiary education institution of equivalent standing) with a minimum grade point average of 5.0 (using a 7.0 point scale) over the last two years of the Bachelor degree, or

The criteria for admission to this program are as follows:

  • Students will be admitted on the basis of a portfolio of work and a written submission outlining the theme or issue that the studio research will address and
  • Completion of a four-year undergraduate degree or three years plus Honours in an appropriate visual art or design discipline with a proven research component equal to a minimum of 40CP or practitioners with substantial experience and a corresponding exhibition record will also be considered (their written submission should include discussion of the research nature of the visual work they have produced).

The Graduate Certificate in Leadership and Management is designed to suit the professional development needs of middle level managers in industry and government, enhancing existing practice and preparing for more senior leadership roles.
Entry Requirements

To be eligible for admission to this Graduate Certificate, a student must:

  • hold any Bachelor degree (or higher) from a recognised University (or another tertiary education institution of equivalent standing) with a minimum GPA of 4.0 (using a 7.0 point scale); and have a minimum of three years equivalent full-time work experience post-degree which includes
    • two years of relevant work experience and
    • one year in a role demonstrating leadership experience
  • OR have a minimum of five years equivalent full-time professional work experience in a relevant field; which includes two years in a role demonstrating leadership experience
  • OR have a combination of alternative admission criteria such as formal, informal and non-formal learning deemed to be equivalent to either of the above.

Leadership can include direct supervisory experience and/or change management in an organisational or project-specific setting.

Evidence of work experience must include a detailed work history (roles, responsibilities and achievements).

Upon request, applicants may be asked to provide:

  • An Applicant Statement of Leadership Experience (maximum 750 words). To demonstrate relevance of work experience, applicants will need to provide a statement detailing examples of applied leadership skills and how their experiences will be complemented by the Graduate Certificate in Leadership & Management program along with a sound knowledge of the Griffith Business School values.

Graduate Certificate

The Graduate Certificate in Acute Care Nursing program enables registered nurses to develop advanced knowledge and specialist skills in the Acute Care environment and addresses the core competencies related to Acute Care Nursing.
Entry Requirements

To be eligible for admission to the Graduate Certificate in Acute Care Nursing, applicants must hold:

  • a Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent degree from a recognised University (or another tertiary education institution of equivalent standing)
    AND
  • current or temporary unrestricted registration as a nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

Degrees from overseas institutions must be assessed as equivalent to a recognised Australian accredited qualification.

The School of Nursing and Midwifery has instituted a Recognition of Prior Experience (RPE) procedure for registered nurses who do not have an undergraduate qualification. Applicants will be assessed on their ability to demonstrate eligibility requirements.   • a Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent degree from a recognised University (or another tertiary education institution of equivalent standing) and a GPA of 4 or above AND
  • current or temporary unrestricted registration as a nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
