Griffith University Courses

To be eligible for admission to the Graduate Diploma of Health Research, a student must:

• hold an undergraduate degree in a Health related discipline from a recognised University (or another tertiary education institution of equivalent standing) with a minimum GPA of 5.0 (using a 7.0 point scale) over the last two years of the Bachelor degree, or
• hold a Masters degree in a related Health discipline from a recognised University (or another tertiary education institution of equivalent standing)

As a condition of acceptance into the program, students are required to find a suitable supervisor and have their research project approved by the supervisor and Program Director. Students requiring assistance in finding a suitable supervisor should contact the appropriate School Advisor. The School Advisor will be responsible for assessing and recommending applications for admission into the program, approve plans for courses of study, and act as the nominated student contact for concerns and issues that arise. The Program Director will have final approval for admissions into the program.

To be eligible for admission to Master of Civil Engineering, a student must hold:

• a Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent three year or four year Civil Engineering undergraduate degree from a recognised university (or another tertiary education institution of equivalent standing)
• OR a Bachelor Honours degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent four year Civil Engineering undergraduate degree from a recognised university (or another tertiary education institution of equivalent standing)
• OR a Graduate Certificate in Civil Engineering.

Students admitted to the program with a Bachelor Honours degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent four year Civil Engineering undergraduate degree or a Graduate Certificate in Civil Engineering will be eligible for 40 credit points of advanced standing towards the program. Trimester 2 entry is only available to students admitted with advanced standing.

Note: Only graduates of civil engineering will be admitted to this program due to its focus on technical design. The program is, therefore, not suitable to other engineering graduates.

To be eligible for admission to the Graduate Diploma of Integrated Water Management, applicants must hold:

• a Bachelor degree in a field relevant to water management OR a Graduate Certificate in Integrated Water Management;
• a minimum of one year practical experience in a related field.

Students admitted to the program with a Graduate Certificate in Integrated Water Management will be eligible for 40 credit points of advanced standing towards the program. Further credit in addition to that awarded on the basis of advanced standing is not available.

For admission to the Master of Education and Professional Studies Research, an applicant is required to hold:

• a postgraduate qualification with a GPA of at least 5.0 in a related discipline
• OR a bachelor degree with at least Second Class Honours (Division B) in a related discipline.

In addition to the academic qualifications required for candidature as described above, the following criteria need to be satisfied for admission:

• the proposed topic is appropriate for higher degree research and consonant with the academic aims and objectives of the School of Education and Professional Studies;
• the School of Education and Professional Studies is able to provide the necessary research place, supervision, resources and facilities and there is an appropriate fit between the applicant, research environment, available resources and supervision;
• there are two qualified members of staff holding confirmed, continuing or fixed-term appointments of sufficient length for the purposes of supervision;
• the proposed program of work can be completed within the maximum period of candidature for the degree;
• the proposed research does not reproduce research that has previously been submitted for the award of a degree or diploma;
• the proposed program conforms to the University's ethical guidelines on research involving humans and animals;
• where the intellectual property rights of the applicant may be a consideration, a suitable agreement protecting the rights of the student has been signed - should a student be unwilling to sign an agreement, the research proposal may not be approved and the student may be required to choose another program of study;
• the provision of educational services consequent upon approval of the application for candidature will not expose the University to a risk of contravening any applicable law including any international embargoes, sanctions or controls which regulate the University's operations from time to time.

Applicants wishing to commence in Research Intake 1 should lodge their application prior to the closing date listed at the top of this page. Applicants applying to commence at any other time should submit their application at least four months before their preferred intake date. Refer to the Scholarship Key Dates for further information.

To be eligible for admission to the Master of Catchment Science, an applicant must have:

• hold a related Bachelor degree (or higher) from a recognised University (or another tertiary institution of equivalent standing) with a minimum GPA of 4.0 (using a 7.0 scale) and at least one year of professional experience OR
• hold a Griffith Graduate Certificate in Catchment Hydrology OR
• hold a Griffith Graduate Certificate in Catchment Processes.

Students admitted to this degree program with a Graduate Certificate in Catchment Hydrology or Graduate Certificate in Catchment Processes will be eligible for 40 credit points of advanced standing towards the Masters.

To be eligible for admission to the Graduate Certificate in Professional Nursing, applicants must hold:

• a Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent degree from a recognised University (or another tertiary education institution of equivalent standing)
  AND
• current or temporary unrestricted registration as a nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

Degrees from overseas institutions must be assessed as equivalent to a recognised Australian accredited degree.

The School of Nursing and Midwifery has instituted a Recognition of Prior Experience (RPE) procedure for registered nurses who do not have an undergraduate qualification. Applicants will be assessed on their ability to demonstrate eligibility requirements. The School of Nursing and Midwifery will determine eligibility for admission into the requested program based on application, curriculum vitae and referee reports.

While the Master of Primary Maternity Care is mainly designed for registered midwives, it is also available to other health professionals in the maternity services sector.

All applicants seeking to undertake the Master of Primary Maternity Care must hold:

• a Bachelor degree (or equivalent) in a suitable professional health practice discipline such as midwifery, medicine, nursing or social work from a recognised tertiary institution with a GPA of 4.0 or above
• OR a Graduate Certificate in Primary Maternity Care from Griffith University (students will be eligible for 40 credit points of advanced standing and will be required to complete 80 credit points in the program).

Consideration for admission to the Graduate Certificate in Suicidology program will be given to those candidates who have:

• completed a Bachelor degree in any discipline
• OR a health or social sciences-related Diploma or Certificate IV VET/TAFE qualification plus two years relevant work experience.

To be eligible for admission to the Graduate Certificate in Policy Analysis, a student must:

• hold any Bachelor degree (or higher) from a recognised University (or another tertiary education institution of equivalent standing) with a minimum GPA of 4.5 (using a 7.0 scale) OR
• have a minimum of five years equivalent full-time professional work experience in a relevant field or with the public sector OR
• have a combination of alternative admission criteria such as formal, informal and non-formal learning deemed to be equivalent to either of the above.

To be eligible for admission to the Graduate Certificate in Climate Change Adaptation, a student must:

• hold a Bachelor degree from a recognised University (or another tertiary education institution of equivalent standing) with a minimum GPA of 4.5 (using a 7.0 point scale)
• OR have a minimum of five years equivalent full-time relevant work experience.

To apply for admission into the Master of Advanced Health Services Management, a student should:

• hold a suitable Bachelor degree in a related field (Public Health, Health Services Management, Environmental Health, Allied Health, Medicine, Nursing, Psychology, Clinical, Research and Biomedical Health)
• OR hold a Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma or Bachelor Honours degree in a related field (Public Health; Health Services Management; Environmental Health; Allied Health, Medicine, Nursing, Psychology, Clinical, Research and Biomedical Health) - students will be eligible for admission with advanced standing to complete a 120 credit point Masters
• OR have completed one of the following Griffith Graduate Certificates*:
• Graduate Certificate in Digital Health (3336)
• Graduate Certificate in Health Services Management (3082) or Graduate Certificate in Health Services Management (3317)
• Graduate Certificate in Clinical Leadership (3280)

* Students applying for admission via this pathway may be eligible for Advanced Standing or specified credit of up to 40 credit points depending on courses completed in the Griffith Graduate Certificate in Health Services Management program. Credit applications for other Graduate Certificate programs are assessed individually and will require assessment of similarity in learning outcomes.

Applicants with extensive experience in health services management positions who do not hold such qualifications as listed in the requirements above may apply for admission to the Graduate Certificate in Health Services Management, Graduate Certificate in Digital Health or Graduate Certificate in Clinical Leadership with progression to the Master of Advanced Health Services Management being dependent on a minimum pass grade in all courses.

Students who have graduated with the Master of Health Services Management (120 credit points) award are not eligible for admission to the Master of Advanced Health Services Management.

To be eligible for admission to the Master of Biotechnology, an applicant must have:

• a related Bachelor or Bachelor (Honours) degree with a GPA of 4.5 or higher.
