The Master of Professional Psychology provides selected psychology graduates with a fifth year of professional training in psychology.
Entry Requirements

A candidate shall:

(a) hold an AQF Level 8 four-year Bachelor honours in Psychology, or AQF level 7 three-year accredited sequence in Psychology plus an AQF Level 8 fourth year Bachelor honours or Graduate Diploma, Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC)-accredited sequence in Psychology within the last 10 years and be eligible for registration with the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA) as a provisional psychologist. An exception to the 10-year rule may be made for currently registered psychologists who can demonstrate current compliance with the PsyBA CPD requirements seeking to gain a professional postgraduate qualification;

1. have done a National Police Certificate;

2. have done a Working with Children Check; and

3. have provisional registration with the Psychology Board of Australia.

Please Note: You may submit your application for the Master of Professional Psychology without submitting your Working With Children Check, National Police Certificate or evidence of Provisional Registration with the Psychology Board of Australia. However, should you be offered a place on the program the offer will be made on the condition that you submit each of these documents prior to the commencement of the program in Trimester 1. The Working with Children Check should be carried out according to the procedures of the state in which you are planning to conduct your clinical placement.

Selection procedures will include consideration of:

1. the applicant's academic record;

2. referee reports from at least two referees;

3. checking of original degree certificate; and

4. interviews for shortlisted candidates (face-to-face or via teleconferencing) by a panel comprising at least two members of academic staff of the Discipline of Psychology, both of whom have qualifications equivalent to those required for general registration as a psychologist.

Please note: Places in the Master of Professional Psychology are limited. Final offers are based on Interview performance, academic record and referee reports. Failure to receive an invitation to interview or offer of candidature in the program does not indicate a determination of lack of suitability for postgraduate professional psychology training but, instead, reflects the high standard of applications UNE receives each year.

This course will train Psychology graduates and registered, experienced Psychologists in the professional specialisation of clinical psychology.
Entry Requirements

A candidate shall:

(a) hold an AQF Level 8 four-year Bachelor honours, or AQF Level 7 three-year Bachelor plus an AQF Level 8 fourth-year Bachelor honours or Graduate Diploma, in an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC)-accredited sequence in Psychology at the level of at least second class division one honours or equivalent obtained within the preceding 10 years. An exception to the 10-year rule may be made for currently registered psychologists who can demonstrate current compliance with the Psychology Board of Australia continuing professional development requirements; and be eligible for Provisional Registration with the Psychology Board of Australia; and completion and provision of the following:

1. Working with Children Check;

2. National Police Certificate; and

3. Provisional registration with the Psychology Board of Australia.

or

(b) hold an AQF Level 9 Master of Professional Psychology from the University of New England (or have completed all the units in that course except PSYC531) in addition to satisfying the requirements of rule (a); or

(c) hold General Registration with the Psychology Board of Australia without conditions for a minimum of 12 months; have completed a minimum of 12 months practice in the role of psychologist with General Registration, and can provide documentary evidence of this in the form of a letter from an employer(s); in addition to satisfying the requirements of Rule (a) (with the exception of the requirement for eligibility for Provisional Registration).

Please note: Places in the Master of Psychology (Clinical) are limited, because of this, applications are ranked: first for an offer of Interview, then again for a place in the program. Final offers are based on interview performance, academic record and referee reports. The Master of Scientific Studies is a course work plus research degree designed to provide specialised training in a specific field of study.
Entry Requirements

A candidate shall:

(a) hold an AQF Level 7 Bachelor degree in a relevant discipline* at the level of Credit (GPA 5) or above; or

(b) hold an AQF Level 8 Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma or Bachelor with Honours in a relevant discipline* at the level of Credit (GPA 5) or above.

*Relevant disciplines include, but are not limited to: Biochemistry; Biology; Botany; Chemistry; Genetics; Geology; Mathematics; Microbiology; Physics; Physiology; Statistics; and Zoology. A degree will be considered relevant to a nominated major if it includes study that covers the minimum assumed knowledge. Where it is not clear from their academic background, applicants may include a cover letter with their application describing how they have achieved the minimum assumed knowledge.

Minimum Assumed Knowledge for Each Major

Biochemistry: two units of biology and two units of chemistry or equivalent

Biodiversity Science: two units of biology and two units in any biological or earth science at 200-level or above or equivalent

Biomedical Science: two units of biology and two units of chemistry or equivalent

Chemistry: four units of chemistry or equivalent

Genetics: two units of biology and two units of chemistry or equivalent

Mathematics: two units of (calculus-based) mathematics and an additional two units in mathematics at 200-level or above or equivalent

Medicinal Chemistry: two units of chemistry and an additional two units of chemistry, biochemistry or pharmaceutical science

Quantitative Ecology: one unit of statistics or probability, one unit of (calculus-based) mathematics, and two units of ecology, physical geography, or related sciences, or equivalent

Zoology: two units of biology and two units in any biological science at the 200-level or above equivalent

Note: Students wishing to complete the course on a full-time basis are strongly encouraged to have greater than the minimum assumed knowledge and to begin their study in first trimester.

Entry Requirements

1. A candidate shall hold an AQF Level 7 three year undergraduate degree in a discipline other than social work from a recognised university, which includes the equivalent of one year of full-time study, 48 credit points (8 units or equivalent) in any Social Science Discipline as defined by the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia. In other words, the 48 credit points may include units in courses such as Accounting, Anthropology, Economics, Education, Geography, History, Law, Linguistics, Marketing, Management, Political Science, Social Medicine, Sociology, Statistics, etc.

2. Candidates who have not completed one year of study of social science units but have completed a health / allied health or physical science degree should complete:

(a) at least 6 credit points (1 unit or equivalent) of studies in Sociology; and

(b) at least 6 credit points (1 unit or equivalent) of studies in Social Policy.

Such candidates may be permitted to enrol and complete the pre-requisite units concurrently while enrolling in the approved units for the Master of Social Work (Professional Qualifying).

3. Where a candidate holds an international qualification in social work that does not meet the Australian Association of Social Workers eligibility for membership, admission may be sought to the degree through permission from the Social Work Course Coordinator. However, the candidate will be individually responsible for contacting the Australian Association of Social Workers regarding eligibility for membership based on their individual circumstances.

4. Applicants must meet the University's English Language Requirements for Admission Rule.
