The Master of Teaching (Primary) is an ideal course if you have completed a three year non-education bachelor degree and wish to move into a career as a primary school teacher. Upon graduating, you will be eligible to teach Prep - Year 6 in Australian primary schools.

Vaccination Requirement

COVID-19 vaccination is no longer required for workers in high-risk settings including early childhood, primary and secondary education. Decisions on mandatory vaccinations will instead be made by the owner or operator of these settings. Preservice teachers will need to adhere to the individual education setting requirements. To be eligible to complete placements in early childhood settings, pre-service teachers may be required to show proof of immunisation against measles, mumps and rubella and influenza.

There are three key components to gain successful entry to the Master of Teaching (Primary) as outlined below:

Academic Requirements (Pre-requisite Qualification)

To be eligible for entry into this course, applicants must hold:

  • A completed 3 year non-education Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Bachelor degree, or overseas equivalent qualification, with a minimum overall Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 4.0 which has been completed within the last 10 years* ; and
  • Successful completion of at least 8 units (1 year full-time equivalent study) relevant to either one, or a combination, of the learning areas from the primary school curriculum (below):

*Degrees must have been completed/conferred within the last 10 years from the date of term commencement for the relevant intake term. Applicants who completed their Bachelor degree ten or more years ago will need to supply a letter of employment which demonstrates professional experience in the same area as their undergraduate degree. Letters of employment must be presented on a company letterhead as well as signed and dated by a delegated authority. The letter must contain position title, duties performed and length of service.

Non-Academic Requirements (Key Capabilities)

All applicants must provide a mandatory written statement in support of your non-academic capabilities, demonstrating how you hold the key attributes and motivations to become an effective teacher, as outlined by AITSL (Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership). You may consider the prompts mentioned below in each question to frame your response. For your application to be considered, you must write 200-500 words for each of the questions below:

  • Tell us what has inspired you to become a teacher and tell us why you think teaching is a good career choice for you. (In your response, describe who and what has inspired you to become a teacher and describe the types of skills and abilities you will bring to teaching.)
  • Describe one or two leadership, community and/or learning and development activities that you have engaged in. (In your response, describe how these leadership, community and/or learning and development activities demonstrate your conscientiousness and coping strategies when you are faced with challenges.)
  • Describe how you manage your time when you are both planning and coordinating activities in your personal schedule. (In your response, provide examples of how you have put both your planning and coordinating skills to use.)
  • Tell us about one or two times where you have utilised your problem-solving skills to achieve an outcome. (In your response, explain what you learned, regardless of whether the outcome you achieved was positive or undesirable.)

English Language Proficiency

Applicants are required to provide evidence of their completed 3 year non-education Bachelor level qualification with an overall Grade Point Average of at least 4.0, which has been completed within Australia, New Zealand, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland or United States of America.

If you do not satisfy the above requirement, you will need to undertake an English language proficiency test and achieve the following scores:

  • An International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic) overall band score of at least 7.5 with a minimum 7.0 for Reading and Writing and 8.0 for Speaking and Listening.

This course requires you to possess a Working with Children Check (WWCC) to enable you to participate in work integrated learning in schools and other learning sites.

Masters (Research)

The Master of Research is a course of supervised research and study leading to the submission of a thesis which makes a contribution to knowledge.
Entry Requirements

An applicant may be considered for admission to candidature for the degree of Masters of Research if the person holds:

a) an honours degree from CQUniversity or any other approved institution in a relevant discipline

b) a three-year undergraduate degree and a graduate diploma at a high level of academic performance in a relevant discipline

c) a three-year undergraduate degree at a high level of academic performance in a relevant discipline, plus a minimum of one year's relevant work experience

d) a three-year or four-year undergraduate degree with a credit level Grade Point Average (GPA) preferably in a relevant discipline

e) completion of the CQUniversity Graduate Certificate in Research with an average of distinction level of achievement, or

f) alternative qualification/s and/or experience deemed by RHDC to be of equivalent scope and standard to those listed above.

The course is governed by the Research Higher Degree Course Rules Policy and Procedure which provide details regarding all aspects of admission, progression, submission and examination of the thesis.

To be eligible for entry into this course, applicants must have:

  • A completed Bachelor degree in any discipline from an Australian University or college, or equivalent; or
  • A completed CQUniversity Graduate Diploma of Information Systems, or equivalent; or
  • A completed CQUniversity Graduate Diploma of Information Technology, or equivalent.

The Bachelor of Science (Honours) course allows you the opportunity to continue undergraduate studies at a higher level by pursuing an independent research project in an area of interest.
Entry Requirements

To be eligible for entry into this course, applicants must demonstrate the following:

  • A completed Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) equivalent Bachelor degree, achieving a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 5.0, achieved within the second and third year of studies.

The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) course combines research skill acquisition and a dissertation to prepare you for entry into further research higher degrees or increase your competitive advantage for employment opportunities, particularly research-related employment.

The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) course is open to students who have completed an undergraduate degree from a recognised higher education institution and who have achieved a GPA of at least 5 (or higher amount set by the School) in a relevant major as well as any specific discipline requirements such as selected perquisites in their undergraduate course.
