Graduate Diploma

The Graduate Diploma of Midwifery from Charles Sturt University is accredited by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC). This course combines theoretical, simulation and workplace learning over 12 to 18 months of online study, enabling students to work and study concurrently as a student midwife while becoming a qualified midwife eligible for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA).

Entry Requirements

Admission to the course is based on meeting the following criteria:

  • Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency registration as a Registered Nurse
  • Contract with an approved, participating hospital as a student midwife at 0.6-0.8 full-time equivalent (FTE) for the duration of the course

It is a requirement of this course that students have a current employment contract. If a student's employment contract has expired and they have not completed the clinical subject of MID448 it is the responsibility of the student to have their contract extended to enable completion of this subject.

Students may still undertake their theory subjects if their contract has expired only if they have successfully passed MID448 and have completed all clinical competencies.

The Graduate Diploma of Clinical Practice (Paramedicine) prepares nurses for a career as paramedics, offering insights and skills for employment success. Applications for 2026 are closed due to capacity limits.

Entry Requirements

For entry to this course, students must hold a bachelor's degree in nursing (or equivalent) and be registered to practice with Ahpra or an equivalent National registration body. A minimum of 12 months of clinical experience in the nursing field post-undergraduate qualification is a requirement for admission to this course.

Applicants must have, and provide evidence of, 12 months experience as a registered nurse (RN) before session commences. This evidence must be your Statement of Service or an Official Letter from your employer showing hours completed. A copy of your Resume / CV is not acceptable.

Intending students should also be aware that to undertake the practicum subjects they will be required to comply with the risk management policies and procedures of the host ambulance authority. Students must be able to attend intensive schools associated with three subjects.
