This course is part of an articulated program of study. Articulated programs allow you to build on your study to achieve the right level of qualification for you.

Entry requirements

For entry to this course, students must hold a bachelor's degree in nursing (or equivalent) and be registered to practice with Ahpra or an equivalent National registration body. A minimum of 12 months of clinical experience in the nursing field post-undergraduate qualification is a requirement for admission to this course.

Applicants must have, and provide evidence of, 12 months experience as a registered nurse (RN) before session commences. This evidence must be your Statement of Service or an Official Letter from your employer showing hours completed. A copy of your Resume / CV is not acceptable.

Intending students should also be aware that to undertake the practicum subjects they will be required to comply with the risk management policies and procedures of the host ambulance authority. Students must be able to attend intensive schools associated with three subjects.

Career pathways

On graduation, you'll be ready to work as a paramedic in emergency paramedicine and out-of-hospital healthcare environments. Be the first to care for people in emergency situations, and work as part of multidisciplinary health and emergency service teams. In rural and remote environments use your skills and abilities to treat urgent conditions and link patients to definitive care providers (hospitals, GPs, community health and other service providers). Take part in exercises and operations and provide combat units with emergency medical intervention across clinical care and evacuation teams, as well as dedicated medical facilities and hospitals.

Note: CLS407 Essentials of Paramedicine: Clinical Placement must be completed in an approved out-of-hospital setting such as a statutory ambulance authority. Students undertaking the internships must satisfy the risk assessment requirements of the relevant ambulance authority.
