Entry Requirements

To be eligible for admission to a research Master degree, an applicant must hold:

(a) a Bachelor degree (AQF Level 7) with a Grade Point Average of 5.0 or higher on a seven point scale from a recognised higher education institution; or

(b) a Bachelor Honours degree (AQF Level 8) Class IIB from a recognised higher education institution; or

(c) a record of qualifications and/or professional research experience deemed to be equivalent to the standard of (a) or (b) as may be approved by the Research Degrees Committee, or the Chairperson acting on behalf of the Committee.

The prior study must be in an area of study relevant to the discipline area of the Master degree. If the prior study has not included an appropriate preparation in research methodology, the candidate will be required to undertake an appropriate research methodology course, as specified by the relevant Head of School, as part of their candidature.

The admission requirements for a specific Master degree may include additional requirements, such as a Bachelor degree in the relevant discipline, professional registration, a specified number of years of professional practice, or other requirements indicative of a suitable preparation to undertake a research program at Master level.

Entry Requirements

Admission requirements you'll need to meet for this course.

  • The following course-specific admission requirements are mandatory and must be satisfied by all applicants. These requirements are in addition to or supersede the minimum requirements outlined within the Academic admission requirements band section below.

    All applicants are required to have a Bachelor degree in a human bioscience area (including allied health, biomedical science, exercise and sports science, food science, health science, medicine, nursing, nutrition, pharmacy or science, or other relevant science-based degree as determined by the University) with a weighted average mark (WAM) of 65% or higher.

    The Bachelor degree must include Biochemistry and Human Physiology content, with Chemistry (0.25 EFTSL) followed by Biochemistry (0.25 EFTSL), and Human Biology (0.25 EFTSL) followed by Human Physiology (0.25 EFTSL).

    Academic admission requirements (Band 8) may be satisfied through completion of one of the following:

    • Bachelor degree in a cognate discipline; or
    • Where accepted, equivalent prior learning, including at least five years relevant professional experience.
  • International applicants are required to demonstrate English Language proficiency as specified in the current National Alliance of Self Regulating Health Professions. Internationally schooled applicants may also be required to meet this requirement.

    These requirements can be met through one of the following:

    • IELTS Academic with an overall minimum score of 7.0 and a minimum score of 7.0 in each of the four components (listening, reading, writing and speaking); or
    • Occupational English Test (OET) with a minimum score of B in each of the four components; or
    • Completion of a Bachelor degree taught and assessed solely in English from an approved country. United Kingdom, Ireland, United States of America, New Zealand, Canada, Australia, South Africa.

    Note: English tests must be completed within 2 years of the proposed course commencement date and additional requirements may apply in relation to acceptable number of test sitting and combined scores across test sittings.

    Minimum English standard requirements for this course may also be satisfied with one of the following:

    • Bachelor degree from an approved country;
    • Successfully completed 0.375 EFTSL of study at postgraduate level or higher at an Australian higher education provider (or equivalent); or
    • Where accepted, equivalent prior learning, including at least five years relevant professional experience.

The Master of Dietetic Practice is a 2-year full-time program. Dietetic Practice is the application of the science of food and nutrition across a range of domains to improve the health and wellbeing of individuals, communities, and populations.
Entry Requirements

To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have completed the following prerequisites:

A. ACU's Bachelor of Nutrition Science which includes completion of the ACU units NUTR404 Advanced Culinary Nutrition Science and NUTR405 Foods for Special Diets, AND one of the following:

ii. evidence of relevant industry experience for at least one year post-Bachelor graduation.

OR

B. A Bachelor degree in Nutrition (or equivalent) which includes the equivalent of one full-time half year of study (4 study units or equivalent) in:

i. Chemistry followed by Biochemistry; and

ii. Human Biology and Human Physiology; and

iii. Food and Human Nutrition Science, which must include foundation nutrition, nutrition through the lifespan, food science, and the role of diet in the development and management of chronic disease;

AND one of the following:

a. a grade point average (GPA) of at least 4.6 on the ACU 7 point scale; or

b. evidence of relevant industry experience for at least one year post-Bachelor graduation.
