There are pathways to stay involved with project Everest once you have completed your internship. If you're interested there are leadership training opportunities where if you are successful you can come back to be a part of a leadership team and lead a project yourself. From experience, if you are committed to learning, open to feedback and willing to challenge yourself, your efforts will be recognised within this organisation and you will gain a lot personally.

Project Everest runs a variety of projects like female sanitation and sustainable fuel all of which aim to have positive long term impacts on community. The whole aim and vision of the company is to have impact and empower people in developing nations through not only providing them with products and services they need but by giving them the opportunity and the right to make choices about what they consume. It’s not about giving charity. It’s about creating long term sustainable change.

Both in the office and after hours the culture is welcoming, open and fun. There are many opportunities to bond with fellow interns and leaders present in country that has resulted in long lasting friendships. Project Everest Ventures work very hard to ensure the culture stands by their values and is a unique and fun experience.

What I love about Project Everest Ventures is there are a lot of female leaders within the leadership team and with the core team of the organisation. Project Everest Ventures and the community as a whole has a strong stance on ensuring equality and diversity including for LGBTQI+ and ethnic minority communities. Project Everest has identified areas where they could improve their diversity and are openly working towards increasing who is able to access the internship opportunities.

Responsibilities as interns range from planning and admin work to getting out into remote communities and conducting interviews with local people in order to understand them and empathise. Overall the responsibilities are very diverse and there is something for everyone.

The leadership team are some of the most competent people I have ever met. They are very well trained in risk assessment and project development. Their passion for Project Everest Ventures and its vision is also something that I haven't seen anywhere else.

Project Everest Ventures have an office base in Sydney, Adelaide and Melbourne. The Sydney office is the main location for the Project Everest Ventures core team. Within the offices there are toilets and kitchen facilities, desk spaces and meeting rooms. All are located within CBD areas, and the dress code is usually smart casual- don't need anything too fancy if that's not your thing!

The program is something you pay to be a part of and don’t get paid for.

The training was a really good introduction into what the work would be like. It was long and hard but incredibly rewarding and fun which is a reflection of what being in country is like. The training in country involved soft skills like business knowledge, communication and pitching all of which I have improved immensely during training.

The work hours align with what you would expect from a traditional corporate internship. The major is the travel that is required to conduct surveys with local villages which can make the feel longer that it is.

Project Everest Ventures is currently working towards ways in which we can offset our carbon footprint and our waste impact. For example looking at where we can reuse uniforms, how we optimise technology to reduce the need to travel and how we can make small changes within workplace culture to ensure we on a sustainable path. What I love about Project Everest, is that everyone brings their own drink bottles, reusable bags and cutlery when working on projects, to ensure we do not add to waste in the areas we are working in.
