Admission to Honours courses at the University of Tasmania require qualifications equivalent to an Australian bachelor degree. Applicants must achieve the required grade in their qualifying studies, meet any prerequisite subjects and the English language requirements to be eligible for an offer. Admission is conditional on research project and supervisor availability.

This course uses a minimum credit average GPA requirement for prior tertiary education and equivalent ranks as part of the admission process.

Applicants must have completed a Bachelor or Master degree (other than Physiotherapy) from an Australian university in the last 10 years, having completed the equivalent of:

  • two units (25 credit points) of human physiology, ideally including exercise physiology
  • two units (25 credit points) of human anatomy, including detailed musculoskeletal, cardiorespiratory and neurological anatomy
  • one unit (12.5 credit points) of study in psychology, and
  • one unit (12.5 credit points) of study in research methods and/or evidence-based practice.

Bachelor degree in study fields such as exercise science, biomedical or other health science is recommended.

This course includes compulsory Professional Experience Placements. * Good academic progress must have been made with passes in more than 50% of enrolment in any given semester

In addition to the entry requirements listed above, international students who are nationals of a country where English is NOT the official language, evidence of an IELTS or TOEFL test must be provided. The Master of Teaching requires an (IELTS) average of 7.5 with no band lower than 7.0 and Listening and Speaking at 8.0.

English A minor in English including at least two units of a strong core of textual studies including literature. Other units may include studies in communications, creative writing, linguistics, media studies, or film studies, drama/performance arts studies.
Humanities & Social Sciences A minor in humanities or social sciences including units drawn from areas such as Aboriginal studies, anthropology, archaeology, Asian or Pacific studies, business, commerce, civics, cultural studies, geography, government, history, philosophy, politics, psychology, religion studies, social communication and sociology.
Mathematics A minor in pure or applied mathematics that must include algebra and calculus. One unit only of statistics may be counted provided it is studied as a stand-alone unit. Engineering units may be considered upon review of unit statements for appropriate mathematical content.
Middle School Mathematics Students coming from a Science or Business undergraduate background who have gained understanding in Mathematics (by the nature of their Science, Business, Commerce or Accounting units) may be considered for MSM.
Science A major in science including four units in a discipline (biology or physics or chemistry or earth and environmental science) including at least two units at 2nd year level or above
The Arts - Double Arts A minor in one of: drama or theatre, music, visual art or media art.

The Master of Dementia offers a research-enabled, cross-disciplinary understanding of dementia and its impact on individuals, societies and governments.
Entry Requirements

A bachelor degree in a health discipline, social work or psychology (AQF7/equivalent from a recognised institution)

A bachelor degree (AQF7 equivalent) in another field, PLUS EITHER a year of full time (equivalent) work experience in dementia/aged care, neurobiology, heath systems/services or public health, OR successful prior completion of four units from the Diploma of Dementia Care (M1D)

We recommend that candidates complete the Understanding Dementia MOOC prior to enrolment, if their previous degree is not related to dementia.

Admission to most postgraduate coursework courses at the University of Tasmania require qualifications equivalent to an Australian bachelor degree. Applicants must achieve the required grade in their qualifying studies, meet any prerequisite subjects, and meet English language requirements to be eligible for an offer.

Masters (Coursework)

The Master of Clinical Nursing articulates directly from the Bachelor of Nursing with Professional Honours or Graduate Diploma courses and consists of 2 x 25 credit point units. Students must have completed a Graduate Diploma or equivalent for entry into the course.
Entry Requirements

Applicants are required to have:

  • Completed a Graduate Diploma or equivalent with a credit grade average in the same specialisation.
  • Practiced as a Registered Nurse for at least six (6) months fulltime equivalence since graduation from a university program, prior to start of the Course.

Also, applicants must provide:

  • Evidence of Ahpra registration as a Division 1 Registered Nurse with no restrictions or conditions.
  • A personal statement, CV or resume which states the area in which the applicant works as an RN and for the length of time.
  • Evidence of confirmation of employment.

Midwives must have a nursing qualification to be eligible to apply. The Course is not available to midwives who do not have a nursing qualification identified in their curriculum vitae.
