The Honours degree in Health Science is designed to provide students with the foundations necessary for research in Health Science disciplines and to gain greater expertise during two semesters full-time study (or equivalent).

  • Applicants are normally expected to have obtained a GPA of at least 5.0.

Meeting minimum entrance requirements does not guarantee entry to the Bachelor of Medical Research with Honours as all offers are subject to supervisor and project availability.

Admission to Honours courses at the University of Tasmania require qualifications equivalent to an Australian bachelor degree. Applicants must achieve the required grade in their qualifying studies, meet any prerequisite subjects and the English language requirements to be eligible for an offer. Admission is conditional on research project and supervisor availability.

    • Evidence is not required from applicants who have completed the BMedRes at UTAS within the last 5 years

This on-campus course is offered at Launceston, Hobart and Rozelle on a full time or part time basis. The course length is a minimum of one year of full-time study and a maximum of two years part time.

This course uses a minimum credit average GPA requirement for prior tertiary education and equivalent ranks as part of the admission process.

Applicants must have completed a Bachelor or Master degree (other than Physiotherapy) from an Australian university in the last 10 years, having completed the equivalent of:

  • two units (25 credit points) of human physiology, ideally including exercise physiology
  • two units (25 credit points) of human anatomy, including detailed musculoskeletal, cardiorespiratory and neurological anatomy
  • one unit (12.5 credit points) of study in psychology, and
  • one unit (12.5 credit points) of study in research methods and/or evidence-based practice.

Bachelor degree in study fields such as exercise science, biomedical or other health science is recommended.

This course includes compulsory Professional Experience Placements. You must meet the College of Health and Medicine's Safety in Practice Requirements before census date of the first semester of your course. IELTS Academic minimum score of 6.5 overall and a minimum score of 6.5 in each individual band OR successful* completed a minimum of 12 months of full time (or equivalent) studies undertaken at institutions in Australia, UK, US, Singapore, Canada or NZ within the previous 24 months.

* Good academic progress must have been made with passes in more than 50% of enrolment in any given semester

The IELTS result must be no older than two years and six months at the expected course commencement date.

To be eligible for an offer applicants must have:

An AQF 7 or above Bachelor level degree in Pharmacy from an Australian Pharmacy Council APC accredited undergraduate program from UTAS or another university or tertiary institution that is deemed equivalent.

Evidence of current AHPRA registration under the General Registration Type for the profession of Pharmacist, without conditions or notations, or equivalent evidence of registration in another country. AHPRA registrations will be confirmed and applicants with conditions or notations will be referred to the School for review.

To be eligible for an offer applicants must have:
