Entry Requirements

Applicants with higher education study

To be eligible for an offer, you must have completed:

  • An Initial Teacher's Education (ITE) degree at Bachelor's level or equivalent qualification such as a Master of Teaching, or;
  • the Graduate Certificate of Education or equivalent qualification

Applicants without an Initial Teacher's Education degree:

To be eligible for an offer, you must have:

  • Completed a Certificate IV or equivalent qualification and 3 years industry or teaching experience.

Admission to most postgraduate coursework courses at the University of Tasmania require qualifications equivalent to an Australian bachelor degree. Applicants must achieve the required grade in their qualifying studies, meet any prerequisite subjects and the English language requirements to be eligible for an offer.

Entry into the Graduate Certificate in Organisational Resilience degree requires;

  • a bachelor's degree or higher in any field or;
  • work experience of at least three years in business continuity management, emergency management, crisis management, protective security, organisational resilience, company directors, HR managers, or other senior roles in operational or general management.

Masters (Coursework)

The Master of Clinical Nursing articulates directly from the Bachelor of Nursing with Professional Honours or Graduate Diploma courses and consists of 2 x 25 credit point units. Students must have completed a Graduate Diploma or equivalent for entry into the course.
Entry Requirements

Applicants are required to have:

  • Completed a Graduate Diploma or equivalent with a credit grade average in the same specialisation.
  • Practiced as a Registered Nurse for at least six (6) months fulltime equivalence since graduation from a university program, prior to start of the Course.

Also, applicants must provide:

  • Evidence of Ahpra registration as a Division 1 Registered Nurse with no restrictions or conditions.
  • A personal statement, CV or resume which states the area in which the applicant works as an RN and for the length of time.
  • Evidence of confirmation of employment.

Midwives must have a nursing qualification to be eligible to apply. The Course is not available to midwives who do not have a nursing qualification identified in their curriculum vitae.

Graduate Diploma

This program builds on career entry undergraduate studies in Paramedicine to expand the clinical knowledge and scope of paramedics, enabling them to further their professional careers in areas addressed by a range of specialisations.
Entry Requirements

Domestic:

To be eligible for an offer applicants must have:

An AQF level 7 (or equivalent) career entry level undergraduate degree in Paramedicine from an approved tertiary institution.

OR

An AQF level 5 or 6 qualification that meets registration requirements as a paramedic in Australia AND an AQF level 7 undergraduate degree from an approved tertiary institution in a cognate health profession.

In addition, applicants must:

  • Provide a statement from your employer confirming current employment as a paramedic; and
  • Have current AHPRA registration in paramedicine without conditions or notations.

Graduate Diploma

The Graduate Diploma of Nursing comprises the second level of the Master of Clinical Nursing program. The Graduate Diploma is offered part-time only, over four semesters. The maximum time for completion is five years.
Entry Requirements

Applicants must have practiced as a Registered Nurse for at least six (6) months fulltime equivalence since graduation from a university program, prior to start of the Course.

Applicants must provide evidence of Ahpra registration as a Division 1 Registered Nurse with no restrictions or conditions.

Midwives must have a nursing qualification to be eligible to apply.

Safety in Practice Requirements for Child and Family Health

This specialisation includes compulsory Professional Experience Placements. If admitted to this specialisation you must meet the College of Health and Medicine's Safety in Practice Requirements before census date of the first semester of your course. The safety in practice requirements are completed separately to the course admission application.

Child and Family Health - Note

The Child and Family Health specialisation is placement based and is only available for nurses in certain geographical areas, specifically Tasmania and some LHD's in NSW.

Rehabilitation Nursing Specialisation

Applications for 2024 are only being accepted from students who have completed H5F Graduate Certificate in Nursing (Rehabilitation Nursing) and are articulating to the Graduate Diploma of Nursing (Rehabilitation Nursing).

A bachelor degree in a health discipline, social work or psychology (AQF7/equivalent from a recognised institution)

A bachelor degree (AQF7 equivalent) in another field, PLUS EITHER a year of full time (equivalent) work experience in dementia/aged care, neurobiology, heath systems/services or public health, OR successful prior completion of four units from the Diploma of Dementia Care (M1D)

We recommend that candidates complete the Understanding Dementia MOOC prior to enrolment, if their previous degree is not related to dementia.
