Domestic applicants with higher education study
To be eligible for an offer, you must have:

a. A completed AQF7 Bachelor Degree or above, or approved equivalent, majoring in a business, management and/or health and social care related disciplines; OR

b. A completed AQF7 Bachelor Degree or above, or approved equivalent, in an unrelated discipline plus a minimum of two years relevant work experience in the health and social care sector.

To be eligible for an offer (only for point b), you must provide evidence that your employment and previous work experience if applicable, meets the minimum requirements. This includes submitting a letter from your employer to confirm your employment as well as a copy of your CV and two letters of reference from your line managers or equivalent positions to support your work experience. If your work experience is as a sole trader or consultant, you must provide a copy of your CV and two testimonials or references from clients that provide evidence of capability consistent with the entry requirements.

An equivalent qualification from an overseas institution is as assessed by the University with reference to the equivalencies identified by the National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition (NOOSR).

Domestic applicants with VET / TAFE study
This course does not admit students on the basis of VET / TAFE study.

Admission to most postgraduate coursework courses at the University of Tasmania require qualifications equivalent to an Australian Bachelor degree. Applicants must achieve the required grade in their qualifying studies, meet any prerequisite subjects, and meet English language requirements to be eligible for an offer.

English Language Requirements

For students who do not meet the English Language Requirement through citizenship or prior studies in English in an approved country, evidence of an approved English language test completed within the last 2 years must be provided. See the English Language Requirements page for more information.

English Language Requirements are: IELTS (Academic) 6.5 (no individual band less than 6.0).

Other English Language Requirement tests that are applicable for the Master of Health Service Management can be found on the English Language Requirements page.

Meeting minimum entrance requirements does not guarantee entry to the Bachelor of Medical Research with Honours as all offers are subject to supervisor and project availability.

Admission to Honours courses at the University of Tasmania require qualifications equivalent to an Australian bachelor degree. Applicants must achieve the required grade in their qualifying studies, meet any prerequisite subjects and the English language requirements to be eligible for an offer. Admission is conditional on research project and supervisor availability.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATION

If your ability to access or participate in education has been affected by circumstances beyond your control, you can apply for special consideration as part of your application. We will consider a range of factors for special consideration, including economic hardship, a serious medical condition or disability.

We can only approve applications for special consideration where we are confident that you have the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in your studies. If your application is not approved, the UTAS admissions team will work with you to find the best alternative pathway to your chosen course. Special consideration is not available for international applicants.

Admission to Honours courses at the University of Tasmania require qualifications equivalent to an Australian bachelor degree. This course uses a minimum credit average GPA requirement for prior tertiary education and equivalent ranks as part of the admission process.

Applicants must have completed a Bachelor or Master degree (other than Physiotherapy) from an Australian university in the last 10 years, having completed the equivalent of:

• two units (25 credit points) of human physiology, ideally including exercise physiology
• two units (25 credit points) of human anatomy, including detailed musculoskeletal, cardiorespiratory and neurological anatomy
• one unit (12.5 credit points) of study in psychology, and
• one unit (12.5 credit points) of study in research methods and/or evidence-based practice.

Bachelor degree in study fields such as exercise science, biomedical or other health science is recommended.

SAFETY IN PRACTICE REQUIREMENTS

This course includes compulsory Professional Experience Placements. You must meet the College of Health and Medicine's Safety in Practice Requirements before census date of the first semester of your course. The safety in practice requirements are completed separately to the course admission application.

English Language Requirements

IELTS Academic minimum score of 6.5 overall and a minimum score of 6.5 in each individual band OR successful* completed a minimum of 12 months of full time (or equivalent) studies undertaken at institutions in Australia, UK, US, Singapore, Canada or NZ within the previous 24 months.

* Good academic progress must have been made with passes in more than 50% of enrolment in any given semester

The IELTS result must be no older than two years and six months at the expected course commencement date.

All Other Requirements

• Physiology, and
• Immunology.

SAFETY IN PRACTICE REQUIREMENTS

All students enrolling in College of Health and Medicine programs which include a Professional Experience Placement component, laboratory and/or field activity are required to establish and maintain their capacity to practice safely via Safety in Practice Requirements documentation. Please note, students in Laboratory Medicine courses are required to either provide evidence of immunity to Hepatitis B or administration of at least the first dose of a three dose course of Hepatitis B vaccination, by the start of the second week of their degree. Students must bring all documentation relating to Hepatitis B vaccination and immunity (in English) with them when they commence the course.
