Using hemp to remove toxic chemicals from soil

Dr Brett Turner knows that PFAS chemical contamination is a dangerous problem, and a global one. That’s why Brett and his team are developing a groundbreaking new way to remove these contaminants from soil using all-natural hemp proteins. Over 40,000 sites worldwide have been polluted by PFAS. Brett is excited by the initial results of their work in Williamtown, where they were able to remove 99% of the contamination in the samples they tested.

Dr Elena Aydos - Exploring strategies for lasting climate change solutions

Senior Lecturer of Law, Dr Elena Aydos believes lasting solutions to climate change are possible, if we observe and learn from the actions of other countries across the globe. Through her research, she’s shown how implementing strategies like carbon pricing has had a positive impact in many other parts of the world. By understanding the enabling factors that led to progress, Elena hopes to help create effective climate change policy here in Australia. The problem of climate change is urgent, and Elena believes we will need global collaboration to create a sustainable future. She’s proud to be help pave a new way forward.

Helping ease cancer’s worst symptoms

Chair of Clinical Pharmacology, Professor Jenny Martin is hopeful about the potential for medical cannabis to ease suffering - particularly for cancer patients living with symptoms like chronic pain, fatigue, nausea, and mood and weight disorders. Jenny leads a team of experts who research effectiveness, safety and side effects of cannabis-based drugs. Their research just might hold the key to improving these symptoms, and the quality of life for countless patients across the globe.
