    For entry into this degree, you must have one of the following:

    • a four-year bachelor's degree with a minimum weighted average mark (WAM) of 65 in a cognate science or engineering discipline (e.g., materials science and engineering, chemistry, chemical engineering, mineral engineering and mechanical engineering)
    • a bachelor's degree with a minimum weighted average mark (WAM) of 50-65 in a cognate science or engineering discipline and approximately five years' professional experience in a relevant field such as in the materials processing or testing industry
    • an honours degree at a recognised university
    • a graduate certificate or graduate diploma in the materials sciences with a minimum WAM of 65.

    Applicants with other relevant qualifications and experience not listed above may apply for admission to this program. You will need to demonstrate that you have achieved the same knowledge and skills through your formal or informal learning as the qualifications listed for entry into this program.

    Those applying for admission from a cognate field and/or with an honours degree may receive Recognised Prior Learning (RPL). Those entering from a non-cognate bachelor's degree or other degrees will only be eligible for credit where it is directly relevant to materials technology.

    Honours is an extra year of study available to high-achieving students that combines aspects of undergraduate study with post-graduate research.

    Students must have completed the UNSW Bachelor of Music or other recognised Level 7 qualification with a major in a stream offered in the program. Students in a dual degree must have completed 144 UOC including all requirements for the Music component. Entry to Honours requires a WAM of 70 or higher (or equivalent) in the stream seeking to be further studied. It is subject to resources and the approval of the Head of School in which the stream is based.

    The conferral of the honours degree for dual degree students is subject to students completing all requirements of the dual degree. Students who subsequently withdraw from their dual degree after the completion of honours will only be conferred the honours degree if they have met all requirements for the single degree.

    Assumed knowledge

    Applicants are expected to have reached the level of at least Grade 7 AMEB Performance (or equivalent) and Music 2; or Grade 6 AMEB Musicianship (or equivalent); or HSC Music Extension.

    Adjustment Factors


    We offer a range of adjustment factor schemes that reward students for academic performance and extra-curricular achievements. These schemes also take into account a range of personal and educational disadvantages that may have affected your studies.

    HSC Plus
    This scheme rewards students who perform well in Year 12 subjects that are relevant to their preferred UNSW degree. You may be awarded up to five points.

    Elite Athletes, Performers and Leaders (EAPL)
    This program recognises achievements in the areas of sport, academia, leadership and music at an elite level. You may be eligible for up to five points.

    Educational Access Scheme (EAS)
    Factors such as illness, financial hardship, language difficulties or attending a particular school can mean you don't always get the best possible marks in Years 11 and 12. If one of these situations applies to you, submit an application for the Educational Access Scheme (EAS) via UAC. Eligible students can receive between 1 and 10 points towards their chosen UNSW degree.

    This scheme is open to students in Years 11 and 12 who attend Gateway schools. It significantly adjusts the ATAR requirements for your preferred UNSW degree and provides you with an early conditional offer to UNSW.

    Entry programs for Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
    We offer entry programs for Indigenous Australians, including the Indigenous Preparatory Programs and the Indigenous Admission Scheme (IAS). The entry pathway program you apply for will depend on the degree you want to study.

    Additional selection criteria

    All domestic applicants*^ who wish to study an undergraduate law double degree at UNSW need to sit the Law Admission Test (LAT), including those:

    • enrolled in their final year of secondary schooling (Year 12 HSC or equivalent)
    • who have already completed their secondary schooling (e.g. those on a gap year)
    • who are currently studying at another university and wish to apply to transfer to Law & Justice
    • students in Year 11 who wish to sit the LAT before their HSC year (LAT results are valid for two years)

    *Domestic applicants include Australian citizens and permanent residents, Australian permanent humanitarian visa holders and New Zealand citizens.

    Every year UNSW Law & Justice provides up to 100 places for students studying a non-law degree at UNSW to transfer into a Law double degree. Alternative entry through Internal Program Transfer (IPT) doesn't require you to sit the LAT and providing you receive full credit for your first year of studies, it won't take you any longer to complete a law double degree.
