Specific program requirements for admission are dependent on which pathway into the Program you require.

The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia determines the eligibility to undertake a Re-entry or Bridging program.

  • All applicants must have a Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent
  • Applicants for 'Re-entry' or 'Bridging' pathways must have a valid AHPRA referral letter; the letter must be valid for the duration of the program and an additional 4 weeks following completion
  • Applicants must provide evidence of meeting the English language proficiency* requirements for postgraduate degrees
  • All applicants must have a valid national police certificate and criminal record screening check
  • Non Australian citizens are required to provide a criminal record check from country of origin and any country resided in after the age of 16
  • International applicants must hold a valid Australian visa until course completion

If unable to provide a Police Certificate from your home country or any country you have resided in since turning 16 years of age, a Statutory Declaration must be completed. This Declaration must state that you have no pending criminal charges or convictions from your home country or any country that you have resided in. If you do have such records, you must list date of any offences, the type of offence and the court outcome.

Applicants must provide evidence of meeting the English language proficiency requirements for postgraduate degrees. Applicants must also meet the English language skills registration standard set out by NMBA.

COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement The COVID-19 vaccination is mandatory to be eligible to attend a WIL placement for this course. Students will be required to provide evidence of having completed a COVID-19 vaccination schedule by the closing date prior to a WIL placement. The vaccine received must be a vaccine approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) of Australia.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible to enrol in this course applicants must be referred by the AHPRA/NMBA to undertake "a board approved re-entry to practice program". A copy of this referral must be supplied with your application. NMBA/AHPRA referrals have an expiry date, therefore, applicants are responsible for ensuring they have sufficient time to complete the course (including work-integrated learning).

Domestic students from non-English speaking backgrounds may be required to undertake an academic IELTS (International English Language Testing System) with a minimum achievement of 7 across all bands and overall prior to undertaking their clinical placement. This is in order to meet Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council standard 5.6. At the discretion of the Head of Course, students may be referred to an internal English short course at their own expense. This is in order to meet Australia Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council standard 2.2.
Security RequirementsYou will need to undertake the following security checks in order to complete clinical practice: 1. Working with Children Check (or evidence of AHPRA registration) 2. Australia Federal Police Check 3. Criminal Record Screening All completed checks must be uploaded to the SONIA database before Census date in the term that you are completing your clinical subject. Some of these security requirements may take many weeks to complete and it is essential that students commence this process as soon as possible. Please refer to Compulsory Pre-placement Requirements for details on security requirements. These security requirements incur costs outside of the advertised course fees.

Students must seek permission from the Head of Course to be enrolled in full-time study. Part-time study does not require approval.

It is strongly recommended that students have computer literacy skills and can write in English at an academic level. Prior experience of online learning will be of benefit to students enrolled in this course.

Students are expected to commit to 12.5 hours per week, per unit, therefore, students who have multiple time commitments are strongly encouraged to study part-time.
