This Masters by Research course sees candidates working with a Principal Supervisor, appointed by the Research Higher Degrees Sub Committee, with the approval of the School.
This course enables you to pursue further studies in actuarial applications in order to fulfil the part ll requirements of the Actuaries Institute, and to undertake your own significant research project in interesting actuarial areas. See our handbook for more course information.
The Graduate Diploma of Research Studies in Science is an 80 credit point program that provides an alternative route for entry into a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) program for applicants who do not possess the required qualifications for direct admission.
Entry Requirements
To be eligible for admission to the Graduate Diploma of Research Studies in Science, a student must:
hold an undergraduate degree in a related discipline from a recognised University (or another tertiary education institution of equivalent standing) with a minimum Grade Point Average of 5.0 (using a 7.0 point scale) over the last two years of the Bachelor degree
OR hold a Masters degree in a related discipline from a recognised University (or another tertiary education institution of equivalent standing) with a minimum Grade Point Average of 5.0 (using a 7.0 point scale).
In addition to the academic qualifications required as described above, the following criteria need to be satisfied:
there is a qualified member of staff holding confirmed, continuing or fixed term appointments of sufficient length for the purposes of supervision.
Applicants are required to find a suitable supervisor and have their research project approved. Students may find the Griffith Experts website a useful resource to this end. Students requiring assistance in finding a suitable supervisor and developing a research proposal should contact the Program Director.
Apply yourself with an honours degree in science If you would like to make science your profession, then the Bachelor of Applied Science (Honours) will help boost your scientific abilities, enabling you to work towards an academic or research career in your area of choice.
This course enables you to better tailor your study to suit your specific interests in science and gives you access to advanced-level units relevant to an honours degree. You will learn core science units and choose a science major in which to specialise.
As a doctoral research degree candidate, you will uncover new knowledge either by the discovery of new facts, the formulation of theories or the innovative reinterpretation of known data and established ideas.
