About this course

This course provides an opportunity at master's level for professional engineers to deepen the knowledge and skills gained in their undergraduate studies while expanding their managerial and professional engineering knowledge.

The course follows an integrated approach to professional practice through disciplinary and professional engineering subjects, subjects relating to the chosen major, an independent project, and a set of electives. Students who wish to undertake a more substantial research project have the opportunity to transfer to the Master of Engineering (Advanced) (C04278).

This course allows students to choose a program of study that deepens the body of knowledge acquired in their first degree as well as expands knowledge boundaries into policy and engineering management areas. It also provides an opportunity to deepen their knowledge and gain practical skills by undertaking an independent project in the field of their major.

Career pathways

Students who hold an undergraduate engineering degree are able to enhance their knowledge and ability through postgraduate-level studies in their respective majors, enabling them to gain and hold employment in relevant engineering fields.

Course structure

Candidates complete coursework subjects and an independent project totalling 72 credit points. The project component consists of a preparatory subject and a project (in the area of the major) which must be undertaken in successive sessions, typically the final two sessions of the course.

Some majors may require students to complete a number of prescribed subjects with or without opportunity for electives. Subjects are selected from postgraduate programs offered by the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology.

A major is granted if subjects totalling 42 credit points (including the project component) are completed within one of the designated majors.
