Reducing Australia's total national greenhouse gas inventory by 3%

At The University of Newcastle we are developing technology with the potential to reduce mining sector emissions by up to 90 per cent, reducing Australia's total national greenhouse gas inventory by up to 3 per cent. With $30 million in Government and industry funding, this world-first research project will deliver abatement technologies that address fugitive methane emissions from underground coal mines.

" Minimizing fugitive meat and emissions has been one of the drivers behind my research in recent years. People are only familiar with co2 as a greenhouse gas, when in fact Methane is much worse than Co2. It has a global warming potential which which is 25 times higher than Co2."
