If you are passionate about social justice and equity, if you wish to pursue a career working as an advocate for rights-based issues, or if you wish to gain greater knowledge and expertise for how to address matters related to equity, inclusion and diversity within your current organisation, then the Graduate Certificate in Professional Equity and Inclusion is a degree for you. All organisations and workplaces require attention to equity and diversity concerns. This program will build your capacity for conceptualising, strategising, implementing and evaluating equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives.

This program is delivered in collaboration with the Centre for Excellence in Equity in Higher Education (CEEHE), a site for innovative research and practice seeking to address persistent inequalities and social injustice, at the University of Newcastle. The program will introduce you to key debates around equity, inclusion and advocacy, and you will gain key skills in promoting social justice and advocating for equity within institutional settings.

Please note this program is only offered part-time in 2023 and will be offered full-time in 2024.

What you will learn

The Graduate Certificate in Professional Equity and Inclusion provides ways to expand your knowledge of professional equity and inclusion strategies and practices. The courses will provide advanced engagement with practical and theoretical resources that can be applied to developing equity and inclusion strategies in professional contexts.

Students must complete 40 units of core courses that include:

  • Key Issues in Institutional Equity and Inclusive Practice
  • Shaping Organisations and Communities: Advocacy and Change
  • Project Design and Evaluation
  • Writing the Field of Equity

These courses are designed to continue to enhance your knowledge of professional equity and inclusive practice. They will build your ability to produce high-level real-world engagement in developing and implementing equity and inclusion initiatives across a wide range of professional and institutional contexts.

Career pathways

Equity diversity and inclusion has quickly grown to become indispensable to organisations and institutions in the public and private sectors. The Graduate Certificate of Professional Equity and Inclusion will provide fundamental and advanced knowledge of how to build equity strategies, initiatives and practices.
