About this course

Course overviewOverview

The Bachelor of Agriculture (Degree with Honours) is a one-year full-time program for students who have achieved academic excellence and wish to build upon their undergraduate degree. It is a pathway to further studies in graduate research such as a PhD.

Integrate what you learned in your undergraduate degree with advanced studies in a specialised field while working on an exciting piece of original research.

The honours course is comprised of coursework subjects and a research project. The coursework subjects will enable students to gain an understanding of the principles of research. Students will also be expected to attend faculty research seminars throughout the year.

Completion of an honours year further prepares students for employment, or for a research higher degree (Doctor of Philosophy or Masters by Research). Honours gives you advanced research, analytical and communications skills, plus greater experience working on independent projects. It can also reduce the length of time by up to a year for some Masters degrees offered at the University of Melbourne.

This degree is an 100-point honours year available to students who have completed a Bachelor of Agriculture degree. The honours year programs are undertaken on a full-time basis and commence at the start of the year only.

Why study Honours?
  • Adds value to your Bachelor of Agriculture degree with an advanced undergraduate year
  • Provides a career or to pursue further research study through a Masters by Coursework degree or a possible pathway directly into a Doctor of Philosophy or another graduate research program.
