Use ultrasound to assist in the diagnosis of a wide range of medical and health conditions with a Graduate Diploma in Medical Ultrasound. This course will teach you the principles of ultrasound technology and give you the skills to undertake a range of examination practices including abdominal, obstetric, vascular and musculoskeletal ultrasound.

With a major shortage of trained and qualified Accredited Medical Sonographers you will be in-demand from the moment you graduate.

Note: To join the course you must source an industry based, supervised clinical ultrasound training position.

What you will learn

  • Be able to apply knowledge of the physical principles, instrumentation, and skills in the use of medical ultrasound equipment.
  • Be able to integrate your understanding of anatomy, standard variants, and pathology as depicted in medical ultrasound.
  • Apply and demonstrate knowledge of ultrasound scanning techniques, image and information acquisition and perform ultrasound examinations.
  • Critically evaluate your sonography practice skills and undertake ultrasound examinations in a professional, safe and ethical manner.
  • Upon completion, become a recognised Australian trained, ASAR Accredited Medical Sonographer.
  • Be confident that you have the necessary skills and qualifications required to be accepted at almost any entry-level Medical Sonographer position anywhere in the world.

Credit for prior study or work

There are currently no formal credit transfer arrangements for entry to this course. Any previous study or work experience will only be considered as part of the application process in accordance with current course rules and university policy.
