About this scholarship

Do you feel that your study often falls near the bottom of your 'things-to-do list' because of other concerns? A Deakin Student Support Scholarship can help if you have financial, personal or social barriers to contend with – and we have a few hundred of these scholarships for deserving students.

Value

Various options for support are available:

  • $10,000 per year for the normal duration of your course or
  • $7500 per year for the normal duration of your course or
  • $5000 per year for the normal duration of your course or
  • $2500 per year for the normal duration of your course or
  • $1000 one off payment.

We will commence offering a limited number of undergraduate scholarships on 14 December 2018 with the remainder of scholarships offered within six weeks of the closing date detailed above. We will continue making offers until all scholarships are awarded.

Eligibility

Prospective candidates should ensure they meet all criteria before submitting their application.

To be eligible you must be:

  • an Australian citizen or hold an Australian permanent humanitarian visa
  • commencing or currently enrolled in an associate, bachelor or honours degree in a Commonwealth supported place (CSP) or postgraduate by coursework degree (CSP or full fee)
  • enrolled at Deakin University in trimester 3 2018 (for trimester 3 2018 applications) OR any trimester/semester of the 2019 academic year (for trimester 1 2019 applications)
  • enrolled full time unless there are circumstances preventing full-time study
  • experiencing financial and personal hardship or a long term medical condition.

Conditions

Areas of hardship

Areas of hardship can include:

  • financial hardship – be receiving a means-tested Centrelink benefit or can demonstrate personal or family taxable income below $56,000, depending on independence status
  • regional or remote home location
  • disability/long term medical condition
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background
  • recent refugee
  • other demonstrable hardship.

Special note

If you are enrolled in an approved part-time course load the payment amount will be prorated based on the number of credit points you study.

How to apply

Submit one application for three scholarships directly via our Course and Scholarship Applicant portal

Follow the steps, select the 'Deakin Funded Scholarships Program' option and your application will be automatically considered for the Vice-Chancellor's Academic Excellence Scholarship, Deakin Scholarship for Excellence and Deakin Student Support Scholarship in the selection process.

This reduces the number of scholarships you have to apply for and increases your chances of receiving a Deakin scholarship.
