The leadership of education has become a complex affair in contemporary society. Deakin's Master of Education (Leadership and Management) explores the responsibilities of those involved in leading and managing education institutions and the learning processes within them.
Delivered entirely online through Deakin's Cloud Campus, the course maintains a strong focus on real-world opportunities and challenges in education leadership. Through live video conferences, video content and interactive discussion boards, you'll delve into current social justice discourse and develop high-level critical thinking and evaluative skills. Each assessment task enables you to translate your knowledge and learnings into practice, preparing you to lead successfully in periods of rapid and significant change.
As a direct pathway to PhD study, you'll have the opportunity to develop foundational research skills and a highly-engaged network of academic peers. Using data and insights from Deakin's innovative educational research, you'll analyse the driving factors of policy and practice in current and future-state education in Australia and around the world.
Optional face-to-face weekend intensives are also offered, giving you the chance to interact with leading scholars, practitioners and researchers.
While the course curriculum focuses primarily on schools, the base ideas apply equally to other learning organisations and those who work within them.
Admission to study postgraduate coursework at Deakin is based on recognition of your professional experience and previous qualifications. Depending on your professional experience and previous qualifications, your course may be:
1 year full time (2 years part time) - 8 credit points

The Master of Education (Leadership and Management) is typically 8 or 12 credit points.
The exact number of credit points you study depends on how much credit you receive as recognition of prior learning (RPL) - your professional experience and previous qualifications - which can save you time and money
To qualify for the award of Master of Education (Leadership and Management), students must successfully complete the following:

The University aims to provide students with as much credit as possible for approved prior study or informal learning which exceeds the normal entrance requirements for the course and is within the constraints of the course regulations. Students are required to complete a minimum of one-third of the course at Deakin University, or four credit points, whichever is the greater. In the case of certificates, including graduate certificates, a minimum of two credit points within the course must be completed at Deakin.
