Providing an opportunity for patients to have a greater voice and empower them through their journeys is a truly wonderful feeling.

Completing a Bachelor of Nursing Science through James Cook University in 2018, and working within the workforce has given me the drive to complete a postgraduate degree, allowing me to further my career options and provide a higher level of care for those in need.

I initially commenced studying in 2013, straight out of high school. Nursing wasn't an area that had grasped me as a young child, but more an area which I have grown to love. A fond memory of my very first placement completed in my undergraduate degree was helping an elderly gentleman to find his independence and feed himself again. This small moment in time cemented my love for nursing.

Providing an opportunity for patients to have a greater voice and empower them through their journeys is a truly wonderful feeling. Patients are vulnerable in these positions and developing a holistic approach to health care has become a passion in the everyday work that I do. On a day-to-day basis, I encounter individuals from all walks of life, and by opening myself to these learning opportunities it has provided a basis for a more integrated and multicultural health care system with greater health outcomes and positive relationships.

Throughout my career in nursing, I strive to be the best health care professional that I can be in many ways. Firstly I strive to be a compassionate, encouraging, and respectful. Along with this, I strive to be the best possible health care professional I can be. As an individual, this is where the master's program fits into my practice as a Registered Nurse. Choosing to major in Rural and Remote Nursing studies, I hope to provide additional health benefits to small communities and the First Nations People. Rural and Remote areas often struggle to maintain staff and clinical practice standards due to resources and funding. In undertaking the extra qualifications I hope to continue to empower, education and care for my patients just as I did the gentleman on my very first placement.
