The full year of prerequisite study and/or specified content must be completed prior to commencing study. Where prerequisite study has not been met, it can be completed:

  • by single subject studies;
  • through the Graduate Certificate in Human Services, for students who are assessed as having already completed six months/four subjects of relevant content;
  • as part of another qualification at undergraduate or postgraduate level

International students who have not completed a Certificate IV or higher qualification in the English language consistent with the requirements for admission to an AQF Level 9 degree course in Australia must have a minimum score of 7.0 or higher in each component (listening, reading, writing and speaking) of the Academic IELTS test upon application.

Applicants for the Master of Psychological Practice must meet the following Admission Requirements:

  • The personal suitability to undertake professional practice as a psychologist, assessed through interview and referees' reports
  • Completion of an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited undergraduate program within the previous five years with a Grade Point Average of no less than 5.5 in core level 2 & 3 psychology subjects (equivalent fulltime) of the accredited sequence.
  • OR Completion of an APAC accredited Graduate Diploma program within the previous five years with a Grade Point Average of 5.5 excluding any introductory psychology subjects.
  • AND Completion of PSY301 Advanced Research Methods in Psychology OR PSY461 Advanced Research Methods in Psychology with Charles Sturt University or the equivalent from an APAC accredited program.

Consistent with the new APAC standards, progression from the first year of this program (fourth year of study in Psychology) to the second year (fifth year) in this course is not automatic. Students will have to meet the progression requirements (e.g., the minimum academic requirements of the first year, Personal Suitability). This is because students who enter the 5th year must meet the criteria for Provisional Registration as a Psychologist. Students who do not meet the progression requirements will exit the program and graduate with the Advanced Graduate Diploma of Psychological Practice.

The Research Advisory Committee (RAC) of the University holds the delegated authority to approval for admission to a research higher degree program.

Basis of Approval for Admission to the Doctor of Veterinary Studies The RAC shall base its decision on admission to a proposed Doctor of Veterinary Studies candidature upon the following evidence, that:

  • the proposed area of research falls within an approved University field of research for admission to a higher degree by research;
  • the proposed supervisors are sufficiently expert in the area of research, and have the time and commitment to be able to provide appropriate supervision, and that adequate physical resources are available;
  • the applicant has the background and ability to undertake the proposed course (refer also to Entry Qualifications, below);
  • the applicant has given the necessary commitment to work regularly on the approved program of study and research and maintain regular contact with the supervisor(s).

For admission to the Doctor of Veterinary Studies, applicants would need to demonstrate that they:

  • Have a veterinary science degree with class 1 or class 2(i) honours which enables candidates to be registered by the Veterinary Practitioners Board of New South Wales or equivalent academic and/or research experience, and
  • Have a minimum of 1 year of veterinary professional experience.

Applicants with a first language other than English must satisfy Charles Sturt University's normal requirements for language competency.
