Masters (Coursework)
The Master of Psychological Practice offers advanced training for psychology graduates, including Commonwealth supported places and HECS-HELP loan options. It is part of an articulated program of study.
Are you pursuing general registration as a psychologist? The Master of Psychological Practice (with specialisations) from Charles Sturt University provides a fourth and fifth year of training in psychology for graduates of an accredited three-year psychology program.
This course has a limited number of Commonwealth supported places (CSP) available. If you secure a CSP your fees are lower than a full fee-paying place. It also means you can apply for a HECS-HELP loan to pay for your studies and defer repayment until you earn above a certain amount.
This course is part of an articulated program of study. Articulated programs allow you to build on your study to achieve the right level of qualification for you.
Applicants for the Master of Psychological Practice must meet the following Admission Requirements:
Consistent with the new APAC standards, progression from the first year of this program (fourth year of study in Psychology) to the second year (fifth year) in this course is not automatic. Students will have to meet the progression requirements (e.g., the minimum academic requirements of the first year, Personal Suitability). This is because students who enter the 5th year must meet the criteria for Provisional Registration as a Psychologist. Students who do not meet the progression requirements will exit the program and graduate with the Advanced Graduate Diploma of Psychological Practice.
Standard English Language Proficiency (ELP) requirements apply. Click here to view the specific international course entry requirements.
For each 8-point subject you are enrolled in, you should expect to spend 10 to 12 hours per week working on assignments and assigned readings, tutorial assistance, individual or group research/study, forum activity, workplace learning, and attending lectures, intensive schools, or examinations. If you are studying four subjects per session, this is equivalent to a full-time job. The workload for some subjects may vary as a result of approved course design.
You may need to attend an online or on-campus intensive school for certain subjects in this course. These schools usually involve lectures, tutorials and practicals that will give you a deeper understanding of your subject.
