To undertake a graduate certificate or diploma of accounting involves 6 months to a year of study and offers a broader understanding of the field of accountancy. This qualification will open up many roles for you and help you decide whether your skill-set is ideally suited to this discipline. It will also equip you with the knowledge to determine if specialising or progressing further in this field is right for you.
After you've studied a graduate certificate or diploma of accounting there are many roles that will be available to you, which will be more entry-level until you've acquired further experience. Some of these roles include payroll officer, purchasing officer, bookkeeper and accounts manager or administrator. With further experience, these may become supervisor or manager roles.
There are several accounting scholarships that you may be eligible for, which you can review here. Some postgraduate degrees are also supported by Austudy through Centrelink, however, this varies between universities.
Students generally need to have studied a related undergraduate degree to get a place in a postgraduate accounting program. Good academic performance is regarded very highly by selectors, but it is not a prerequisite for enrolment in this course. To avoid missing out on selection in this course due to numbers, the earlier you enrol the better.
