"Tell me about yourself," is one of the most commonly asked interview questions. In most cases, it's the first one. The key to a good response is to be succinct while still being informative. Keep your response around 60 seconds long and concentrate on how your abilities and personality attributes relate to the job you're interviewing for.
As though you've just finished writing an autobiography and need to describe it in four phrases. Concentrate on the high points: Discuss your background, primary, and long-term objectives. Then, towards the end, include a phrase that explains why you're in the interview and why you'd be a good fit for the job.
Discussing your background takes more than merely discussing your abilities or professional experience to properly answer this question. It's also about considering such events in the context of your overall existence. Explain where you're from, where you're going to school, and what you're majoring in at the start of your response.
Next, explain your hobbies and how they prompted you to apply for the position. Explain why the field excites you and why you'd like to be a part of it, for example, if you're passionate about journalism.
Make a point of mentioning your previous experience. Explain how your previous internship and employment experience influenced your decision to pursue this position after you've stated your interests. If you don't have any prior experience in the area (or a comparable field), you can discuss relevant classes you've taken or transferable abilities you've gained through class projects or extracurricular activities.
Describe why you're so enthusiastic about the opportunity. Finish your response with a single line that explains why you're so pleased about this opportunity. Make sure to explain something you like about the job or the firm and how it relates to your objectives.
"I'm originally from Mumbai, and I'm currently a Junior at the University of Mumbai," for example. “I chose English as my major because I have always enjoyed reading, writing, and studying literature in general. I'm now seeking opportunities to obtain experience in journalism, a subject that interests me because of its capacity to inform and engage people. I've reported on campus news and events extensively for my college newspaper, and I'm looking forward to gaining additional valuable reporting experience by working on the types of articles your firm produces."
Once you've locked down your answer, practise it in front of the mirror numerous times. This will allow you to become more comfortable with all of the things you want to emphasise while also ensuring that you sound confident rather than stiff.
The question "Tell me about yourself" is the first step in engaging with your interviewer and a wonderful opportunity to stand out from the crowd. So, make sure your tale reflects the thought and detail you put into your response and go into the interview knowing you'll be putting your best foot forward.
