About this course

The Graduate Certificate in Therapeutic Medication Management is designed for experienced Registered Nurses looking to develop knowledge and enhanced practical skills in therapeutic medication management. Using an 'across the life span' approach, concepts such as prescribing, administering, monitoring, and evaluating medications in accordance with Commonwealth and State legislation and policy will be explored.

You will also gain an understanding of the differences between pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics, how medications are absorbed, distributed, and metabolised, and learn to develop individual patient medication management plans.

Your studies will incorporate the principles of medication management from neonatal, paediatrics through to the older persons, and includes cultural and indigenous considerations of medication use and prescribing.

Entry requirements

Admission to the Graduate Certificate in Therapeutic Medication Management requires that:

  • Applicants must have practiced as a Registered Nurse or Registered Midwife for a minimum of two years prior to the start of the course.
  • Applicants must provide evidence of Ahpra registration as a Division 1 Registered Nurse or Division 1 Registered Midwife with no restrictions or conditions.

Applicants will be required to provide evidence of confirmation of employment.

  • 1 Differentiate between the fundamental principles of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics.
  • 2 Apply advanced practice knowledge, skills and / or technologies to conduct a comprehensive clinical assessment for patients specific to clinical practice.
  • 3 Critically analyse current evidence-based knowledge to plan and deliver medication education for patient cohorts / significant others specific to area of clinical specialty.
  • 4 Justify the rationale for medication selection for patients specific to area of clinical specialty.
  • 5 Develop patient medication care plans for patients within your specialty practice area.
  • Course structure

    Students must satisfactorily complete 50 credit points of study.
