About this course

This program introduces and consolidates fundamental principles of public health in Australia and globally. It encourages students to think broadly about factors that affect health and wellbeing including social, environmental, cultural, economic, political and structural issues.

It aims to provide students with advanced knowledge and skills to address challenges to public health through effective public health practice that is collaborative and multidisciplinary. Critical thinking, scientific and analytical competencies are emphasized throughout this course which builds core skills essential to health, health improvement and health services research, planning and evaluation of programs and policy formulation.

To be eligible for an offer, applicants must have:

Completed an undergraduate degree (AQF7) from an Australian higher education institution or equivalent.

Domestic applicants with VET / TAFE study

Domestic applicants with work and life experience

Applicants may be eligible for an offer if they have at least 3 years relevant work experience, or a record of high achievement in other study, or life experiences which demonstrate a capacity to succeed in this course.

1 Source, Assess, analyse and communicate public health intelligence to inform decision making about public health action.

2 Design and evaluate interventions and systems to detect, prevent and control communicable and non-communicable diseases among human populations, including in public health emergencies

3 Design, implement and evaluate health promoting interventions and systems that build capacity in populations to address social, economic, cultural and physical determinants of health.

4 Demonstrate professional conduct in public health practice, that includes a commitment to reducing health inequity and culturally competent, ethical, collaborative and evidence-based practice that builds capacity for public health action.
