About this scholarship

Background:

  • A unique opportunity is available for an outstanding Masters of Philsophy or PhD scholar to conduct research into telomere and telomerase activity in type 2 diabetes and the effects of fenofibrate. The Fenofibrate Intervention and Event Lowering in Diabetes (FIELD) study is a randomised double-blind, placebo-controlled trial that evaluated the effects of long-term fenofibrate therapy on coronary heart disease morbidity in patients with type 2 diabetes.
  • This scholarship is funded by the NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre.

Open to:

1. Applicants must have an unconditional offer of admission for full-time studies in a Masters of Philosophy or PhD at the University of Sydney and be willing to undertake research in the field of type 2 diabetes.

2. Applicants must have at least one of the following: 

  • a Honours degree in Biology, or
  • a Master's degree in biology with a substantial research component.

3. Applicants must have an academic background in science and have completed subjects related to biological sciences.

4. Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident or a New Zealand Citizen.

Value & Duration: The Scholarship will provide an annual stipend allowance of $26,682 per annum (indexed to the RTP rate on 1 January) for up to one year, subject to satisfactory performance.
