About this scholarship

Background:

This project aims to study the fracture of a solid based on non-classical continuum mechanics considering length scale effects and strain gradients. Generally, there are three modes of fracture based on the direction of applied stresses.  This project aims to study the fracture of a solid based on non-classical continuum mechanics considering length scale effects and strain gradients.

Open to:

Applicants with an unconditional offer of admission for full-time PhD studies within the School of Information Technologies at the University of Sydney, and be willing to complete research in the field of fracture mechanics based on non-classical continuum mechanics and strain gradient theory.

Applicants must have both a Bachelor’s degree with Honours (achieved a minimum honours mark of 80) and a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

Value:

The Scholarship will provide an annual stipend allowance equivalent to the RTP rate.

Academic course fees and the Student Services Amenities fee are also provided.

Duration:

Up to three years, subject to satisfactory academic performance. The recipient may apply for an extension of up to 6 months.
