About this course

The Master of Medicine (Metabolic Health) is a highly practical degree that has been designed to help students to develop a comprehensive understanding of the aetiology, diagnosis and multidisciplinary treatment of metabolic diseases.

Almost two in three adult Australians are overweight or obese, with obesity the second highest contributor to the burden of disease (both ill health and premature death) after dietary risks. Equally as important, diabetes is estimated to affect 1. 7 million Australians, with one person developing diabetes every five minutes. Management options for both of these conditions are growing but are also becoming more complex.

Our metabolic health program allows you to gain a qualification in a rapidly evolving and important area of clinical practice. It is suitable for medical practitioners working in primary care, emergency medicine, paediatrics and those planning to train in endocrinology and general medicine.

During this course you will be taught by international leaders in the field of diabetes and metabolic health as you learn how to manage diabetes, obesity and associated cardiovascular complications in the general population, as well as in at-risk populations such as pregnant women, the elderly, those with mental illness and in Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people. Designed to suit busy professionals, this course is delivered online with short, on-campus intensive workshops held in the University's new state-of-the-art Charles Perkins Centre research and education hub.
