One of Sydney Law School's key strengths Jurisprudence comprises the teaching of legal theory, with a focus on the philosophical and sociological aspects of law.

The Master of Jurisprudence is an interdisciplinary program suitable if you are interested in the principles and operations of legal systems or interdisciplinary research methodology. The course is designed to expose students to the importance of legal theory in its broad sense, which includes philosophical reflection, sociological theory and comparative enquiry.

Participants come from a wide range of backgrounds, including: law students who want to specialise in legal theory and comparative studies of law; students from other disciplines, including teachers of legal studies courses in secondary education, who require a systematic introduction to and a comprehensive understanding of the operation of law; and international students from all disciplines who want to use their studies in Sydney to gain an overview of the principles and operations of legal systems.

Entry requirements

Available places will be offered to qualified applicants based on merit, according to the following admissions criteria. Admission to candidature for the Master of Jurisprudence requires a bachelor's degree from with a minimum credit average the University of Sydney, or an equivalent qualification.
