About this course

The Master of Health Management provides the learning material and experiences for students to develop the core knowledge and skills required of healthcare managers in a wide variety of public, private and non-government organisations where services for health and social care are designed, delivered and evaluated. This includes but is not limited to hospital and community settings, the aged care sector, government departments, private practice and small business. Depending on your previous qualifications the course is delivered in a variety of modes including online in full or part-time modes for flexibility to balance life, work and study. Students will complete their study program with a capstone unit in which they consolidate their theoretical learning of health management with a 'real world' action research project.

Professional Recognition: The Master of Health Management and the Master of Health Management (Quality Management) are both accredited by the Australasian College of Health Service Management (ACHSM).

Entry requirements

A candidate shall:

(a) hold an AQF Level 8 UNE Graduate Certificate in Health Management or equivalent;

or

(b) hold an AQF Level 8 Graduate Certificate in a relevant discipline*;

or

(c) hold an AQF Level 8 UNE Graduate Diploma in Health Management or equivalent;

or

(d) hold an AQF Level 8 Graduate Diploma in a relevant discipline*;

or

(e) hold an AQF Level 7 Bachelor qualification in the same or another health, business or management discipline;

or

(f) satisfy UNE by means of other relevant* professional experience by submitting a Statement of Service from your employer/s and/or a resume outlining a minimum of three years' full-time (or equivalent) relevant* professional experience.

*Relevant disciplines include but are not limited to:

Health Management, or

Nursing and Community Services with health management related content

What you will learn

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

critically appraise the interface between health care management theory and practice;
demonstrate skills in the analysis of management problems and the application of problem solving techniques;
apply knowledge of management methods to their practice in managing people and resources;
identify and critically analyse current knowledge of the policy and system dynamics driving change and reform agenda in the health sector and apply findings to the management of healthcare;
critically analyse evidence and conduct research pertaining to a particular aspect of health management to address problems and opportunities in healthcare policy and practice; and
effectively communicate about healthcare management to specialist and non-specialist audiences.
