What you will learn

The degree is completed over 18 months to two years full-time, depending on your previous qualifications. It emphasises both the creative and technical elements required for success in the immersive media industry-including the entrepreneurial foundations of leadership.

You will gain:

  • comprehensive understanding of the global immersive media industry and its future markets and applications
  • in-depth knowledge of immersive design theory and game-engine capabilities
  • advanced technical skills in developing core digital assets in areas such as 3D modelling, photogrammertry, material painting/texturing, sound design/engineering, and scripting
  • a firm grasp of the physiological and ergonomic implications of immersive technology design and human-computer interfacing
  • deep insight into the industry's associated ethical considerations.

You will also undertake a substantial research project, providing the opportunity to not only extend your knowledge even further in a field of interest, but develop highly transferable critical thinking, problem-solving and communication skills.

You'll graduate well prepared to play a senior role in immersive media anywhere in the world-whether in hands-on content development and simulation, or project leadership. From the health, education and entertainment sectors, to defence, science and mining.



Please note: due to the practical nature of the degree with specific hardware and software requirements for Master of Immersive Media Technologies, students are required to attend this program in person from the beginning of semester.

As such this offer is made on the provision you will be able to be onshore in Adelaide and attending face-to-face classes at the university on the first day of semester. Should this change we will keep you updated.

Course structure

To qualify for the degree of Master of Immersive Media Technologies, the student must satisfactorily complete a program of study with a combined total of not less than 48 units. Students may be eligible to complete the program in a full-time standard duration of 1.5 years on the basis of prior learning.
