Graduate Certificate
Lead the safe use of a vital resource
Ionising radiation-such as x-rays and gamma rays-helps us do many important things. It's used in everything from disease diagnosis and treatment, to product sterilisation, soil moisture measurement, and structural integrity testing.
But it's not without risk; if improperly managed, serious human and environmental health problems can arise. Consequently, those with this specialist skill set are in high demand worldwide.
Our Graduate Certificate in Radiation Management will equip you to lead workplace radiation safety across a broad spectrum of industries. Studied over 12 months part-time, it will give you a sound understanding of ionising radiation's:
You'll also acquire:
Upon graduation you will be well prepared to manage radiation safety in a wide range of settings-anywhere from research institutes and laboratories, to mining and mineral processing, or government agencies and regulatory offices. Perhaps you'll become an industrial radiographer with a large engineering firm and monitor the integrity of critical infrastructure.
The program is focussed on providing graduates with the knowledge and education to perform as Radiation Safety Officers in the workplace across a broad spectrum of industries.
Courses undertaken during the first half of the program provide students with an understanding of the fundamentals of ionising radiation including its detection and identification, quantification of radiation dose, the effects of radiation on humans, and management of an accident involving radiation.
The second half of the program equips students with knowledge of the guidelines and regulatory bodies involved in radiation control and the management of environmental radiation. Students will also undertake a two week placement to gain experience in the workplace practice of radiation safety.
The Graduate Certificate in Radiation Management offers a unique student experience encompassing theoretical learning and practical laboratory training.
