About this scholarship

Established in 2017 and maintained by an annual gift from Ian and Ruth Gough. To encourage and assist a meritorious student who demonstrates financial need to undertake the University of Queensland Doctor of Medicine program.

Citizenship:  Australian and Permanent Residents or NZ citizens

Eligibility

The scholarship is open to students enrolled in the Doctor of Medicine program (any year of the course) and who are Australian citizens or permanent residents.

About the award

Selection criteria

The scholarship is awarded to the applicant who best demonstrates the following:

  • Financial need
  • Evidence of personal effort to address his/her financial need
  • An outline of how the scholarship funds will be used
  • Satisfactory academic progress
  • Personal qualities including leadership potential
  • Any other evidence relevant to the applicant’s future success in the medical profession.

The scholarship is awarded once annually on the recommendation of a duly appointed selection committee convened by the Medical Dean or his/her nominee. The selection committee shall consist of no fewer than three individuals and shall include the Medical Dean or nominee (as Chair), the President of the University of Queensland Medical Society or nominee, and one or more academic teaching staff in medicine.
