About this course

Biotechnology is a creative entrepreneurial field, where scientists design innovative products and technologies, pioneering new frontiers in health, agriculture, science, engineering and beyond.

Under this program you'll gain a strong foundation in molecular genetics, microbiology, immunology, physics, chemistry, engineering and mathematics, as well as the commercial and entrepreneurial aspects of biotechnology. You'll learn about biotechnology's varied applications, from antibody engineering to fight disease, genetic plant engineering to increase agricultural yields, vaccine design, cell and tissue culture technologies, and more.

Your fourth year is taken at honours level, where you'll choose either a research focus that addresses both fundamental and applied technical issues or a business and entrepreneurship focus for a career in new product development. You'll build expertise in one of nine specialist areas (majors) such as bioprocess technology, chemical biotechnology, drug design and development and nanotechnology. You can also choose to study Innovation Management alongside your single major to combine your scientific skills with business knowledge.

You'll graduate ready for a career in research or product development in the fascinating field of biotechnology.
