Entry requirements

Applicants to the Program are required to have:

  • Current AHPRA registration to practise as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) within Australia.
  • A Bachelor Degree in Nursing from a recognised tertiary institution, or a qualification to practice as a Registered Nurse, or equivalent.
  • Completed the Graduate Certificate in Mental Health Nursing or the equivalent.

What you will learn

This program offers students the opportunity to develop an in-depth appreciation of the socio-political issues involved in the delivery of health care and the important role of evidence-based practice in providing mental health care.

Students will gain a comprehensive introduction to the core principals of advanced health and risk assessments, as well as an understanding of the psychosocial, therapeutic and pharmacological interventions available in the field of mental health care. They will also have the opportunity to explore the strategies of individual, family and group therapeutic interventions used to improve the health outcomes for an individual with mental health concerns.

This program is positioned within a complex health arena, wherein individuals with a mental health concern and their carers play a central role in the delivery of health care.
