The program is ideal if you have a non-science background and seek to understand the fundamental biological sciences that underpin human health and wellbeing, including human anatomy and physiology, molecular biology and genomics. The Graduate Certificate in Medical Sciences will help you understand the fundamentals of health and medical research.
A range of learning activities and strategies will promote active learning. For example, Human Body 1 and 2 are delivered through lectures integrating Anatomy and Physiology, complemented by small tutorial groups, where you will consolidate your understanding of the human body using dissected anatomy specimens.
By working in small groups, you will have the opportunity to explore in depth the physiological mechanisms underpinning the functions of the human body and to integrate knowledge across disciplines, to enhance students' understanding of the basis of health and disease.
Assignments will integrate theory and work practice, with students researching, preparing and communicating a report on a selected topic.
There are no Practicum or Internship requirements in the Graduate Certificate in Medical Sciences.
A Graduate Certificate in Medical Sciences will give you the skills and knowledge to work as a research or lab assistant in government, non-government organisations, labs or universities. With further study, clinical immunology scientists, pathologists, pharmacologists, biomedical scientists, and histology technicians.
