About this course

The Master of Engineering (Civil) / Master of Construction Management is for students who wish to enhance their knowledge and undertake continuing professional development in both the fields of civil engineering and construction management. The course will have an applied industry focus and present units of study relevant to professional practice and contemporary research in these fields.
 
The discipline specific units within this combined course have a technical focus, which can be complemented with a range of technical or management focused elective units of study along with industry relevant research units, to suit the needs of the individual student. Importantly, many of the technical units of study have a sustainability theme which is the great challenge for the delivery of infrastructure in the 21st century.

Course structure

The Master of Engineering (Civil) / Master of Construction Management consists of 15 units (200 credit points). Units normally carry 12.5 credit points. This course is available on a full-time or part-time* basis. In each academic year, two units (25 credit points) per semester would normally constitute a part-time load and four units (50 credit points) per semester constitute a full-time load. The typical part-time student's average weekly workload is expected to be 25 hours of personal study and class attendance time. For full-time students this would equate to 50 hours per week. To qualify for the Master of Engineering (Civil) / Master of Construction Management, students must complete a total of 15 units (200 credit points) as follows:

  • 4 foundation units (50 credit points), 2 units from each discipline
  • 6 technical units (75 credit points), 2 units from each discipline
  • 2 elective units (25 credit points)
  • 3 research units: 1 Research Methods unit (12.5 credit points); 1 Research Minor Project (Research Paper) (12.5 credit points); 1 research project (25 credit points)

* Students holding an international student visa are required to study full-time and on campus.

Credit for prior study or work
