About this course

The Graduate Diploma of Engineering (Civil Structures) is for students who wish to become competent professional structural engineers equipped with advanced discipline-specific knowledge and skills for the design and analysis of building and civil structures, as well as the advanced uses of both ordinary and new construction materials. The course will have an applied industry focus and present a variety of units relevant to professional practice in the field. The skills involved are common to all sizes of organisations, including public sector, private sector and non-profit.

Course structure

The Graduate Diploma of Engineering (Civil Structures) consists of eight units of study (100 credit points). All units carry 12.5 credit points. In an academic year, two units (25 credit points) per semester would normally constitute a part-time load* and four units (50 credit points) per semester constitute a full-time load. The average weekly workload of a typical part-time student is expected to be 25 hours of personal study and class attendance time combined. For full-time students this would equate to 50 hours per week. To qualify for the Graduate Diploma of Engineering (Civil Structures), students are required to complete eight units (100 credit points) comprising:

6 discipline-specific units (75 credit points)
2 elective units (25 credit points)

* Students holding an international student visa are required to study full-time and on campus.
