The Graduate Certificate of Aviation (Human Factors) provides the specialised knowledge and skills for aviation professionals undertaking operational roles within a Safety Management system. The course, primarily, is designed to meet the needs of personnel currently involved in the aviation industry who wish to upgrade their skills at tertiary level in the specialist area of human factors. In addition, the course has relevance for personnel in other technologically based industries including rail, shipping, medical, heavy industry, the chemical industry and energy production. Graduates may pathway into either the Graduate Diploma of Aviation (Human Factors) or Master of Aviation (Human Factors) courses with advanced standing.

One of the unique aspects of the graduate certificate is that lecturers from a number of universities contribute to this teaching. This provides a range of diverse views and ideas and broadens the students' understanding of the human factors domain.

Course structure

The Graduate Certificate of Aviation (Human Factors) consists of a total of four units (50 credit points). Units normally carry 12.5 credit points. In each academic year, eight units normally constitute a full-time load of 100 credit points and four units normally constitute a part-time load of 50 credit points. The typical part-time student's average weekly workload during semester is expected to be 25 hours.Maximum Academic CreditThe maximum level of credit that can be granted for the Graduate Certificate of Aviation (Human Factors) award is 25 credit points (normally two units)
