Whichever form of writing drives your literary passion, this course will provide the focus, feedback and advice to turn your ideas into publishable works.
We'll help you develop your skills across a number of genres, and source specific and strategic feedback from professional writers. You can also undertake an extended writing project.
With a view to publishing, editing and practical career opportunities, you'll benefit greatly from our strong connections within the Northern Rivers arts community. Southern Cross is the education partner of the Byron Writers Festival and Northern Rivers Performing Arts (NORPA), and supports the Bellingen Readers Writers Festival.
All applicants must have completed a three-year undergraduate degree or be able to demonstrate equivalent professional experience.
This course has no majors but you undertake an extended writing project as well as the following units:
Career opportunities exist as a writer of novels and scripts; food, nature, art or travel writer; feature journalist; critic and reviewer; essayist; poet; editor and publisher; or as a writer for marketing and public relations, the public service and arts-related industries.
To be eligible to receive the Graduate Diploma of Creative Writing students must complete the equivalent of 8 units (96 credit points), comprising:
Exit Awards
Students may be eligible to exit with the Graduate Certificate in Creative Writing after completing the equivalent of 4 units (48 credit points).
