About this scholarship

What you'll receive

You will receive $5,000 to cover the cost of educational expenses in your final semester of study/year of study.

We will pay your scholarship directly into your nominated bank account. Half will be paid at the start of semester, following census date. The other half will be paid, contingent upon satisfying the conditions of the award:

  • after results are released (for students with one semester of study remaining), or
  • following the census date at the start of the second semester (for students with one year of study remaining).

You will also be offered an internship at Queensland Treasury Corporation.

Eligibility

You must:

  • be an Australian citizen or New Zealand citizen or permanent resident
  • be enrolled in a Master of Business (Applied Finance) degree at QUT
  • be enrolled full time in the current semester (minimum 36 credit points), or you have completed one semester of full time study (i.e. 36-48 credit points achieved concurrently) and are now enrolled part time (24 credit points minimum)
  • have 6 or 12 months remaining in your study program
  • demonstrate academic merit with a course grade point average (GPA) of 5.5 or higher
  • be willing to undertake a short-term internship with the Queensland Treasury Corporation during the scholarship period
  • be willing to mentor future recipients after completion of the degree.

Students from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Applicants who have accepted graduate positions need not apply.

Please ensure all 3 sections of the application are completed, including a cover letter. All applications must:

  • be typed and well-presented;
  • address all selection criteria, preferably submitted on a separate page;
  • include relevant additional supporting evidence (such as written references);
  • be submitted to bus.scholarships@qut.edu.au by 11.59pm on the closing date. No late applications will be accepted.

What happens next?

Our panel will assess applications based on:

  • academic merit
  • your desire to build a career in finance
  • evidence of applied understanding of finance concepts, theory and practice
  • evidence of personal and professional achievements and qualities

If you're shortlisted, we'll invite you to attend an interview with the selection panel.  Forward notice of the proposed interview date will be provided upon submission of your application.

Whether you're successful or not, we'll advise you in writing of the outcome of your application.

About the scholarship

The Mark Christensen Memorial Scholarship is named in honour of the life, character and values of Mark Christensen, long-term former QUT Accounting and Finance lecturer. Mark was a highly gifted teacher and generous mentor of others. He worked in finance and related industries for almost 30 years.

In consultation with Mark’s family, his colleagues and friends, the Queensland Treasury Corporation is supporting an annual scholarship for a promising QUT Masters in Applied Finance student. In tribute to Mark’s outstanding personal qualities, the memorial grant carrying his name will be awarded on the basis of both merit and character.
