About this scholarship

These scholarships are funded by the Jack and Merleen Sheedy Endowment and are intended to support mature-aged students seeking to become Early Childhood educator and requiring support to transition back to study. The Endowment, which is supported by the Jack and Merleen Sheedy Foundation, is intended to support two scholarships per annum in perpetuity.

  • a one-off scholarship valued at $5,000 (2 scholarships available) to be paid in two $2,500 instalments (first instalment paid after Semester 1 census date, second instalment paid after Semester 2 census date)

Eligibility

You must:

  • qualify as a domestic student (Australian citizen or Australian permanent resident)
  • apply for and be accepted into one of the following courses, with your study commencing in Semester 1, 2023:
    • ED39 Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood)
    • EU30 Master of Teaching (Early Childhood)
  • be studying part-time or full-time, on-campus or remotely
  • be aged over 25 at the time of application
  • not be sponsored to undertake your degree by an external organization.

If you have served in the armed forces or demonstrated community service, this will be taken into account when assessing your application but is not one of the mandatory criteria for eligibility.

Application process

To apply for this scholarship, you must submit:

  • complete the online application form
  • documentary evidence of previous academic performance (at secondary and/or tertiary level).

A selection committee will assess each application and you will be contacted to advise the outcome.

Retention requirements

You must:

  • remain enrolled in your course beyond Semester 2 census date to be eligible to receive the full scholarship payment.
