This course leads to an advanced professional qualification in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)*. Graduates of the course will be equipped to take positions of responsibility in the planning, administration and delivery of English language teaching programs. The course is also relevant for candidates wishing to undertake applied research relevant to their professional responsibilities and interests in the area of TESOL and applied linguistics. * This course does not provide an initial teaching qualification. Applicants seeking an initial qualification to teach English as an Additional Language in schools in Australia may also require a registered initial teaching qualification such as Master of Teaching (Primary/ Secondary) or Bachelor of Education (Primary/Secondary). The course is available by all coursework or a combination of coursework and a minor thesis (see below). Level 4 subjects may normally only be taken in the first 120 points of a 240 credit point program. Students taking the full 240 credit point program must take the majority (normally two-thirds) of their subjects from the list of applied linguistics subjects below and must also take the subject EDU5RME Research Methods in Education. The remaining subjects can be taken as a Minor Thesis or from other Education subjects.
