About this course

Add a secondary teaching qualification to your existing Bachelor's with this two-year degree. You'll graduate with the skills and knowledge you need to work in government, independent and Catholic schools across Australia. Your subjects will cover state and national curricula, curriculum theory, teaching methodologies and classroom management. You will learn in a blend of online and face-to-face environments. A team of experienced academics and practicing secondary school teachers will guide you through your online modules. The face-to-face component includes three 5 day intensive blocks which will allow you to engage in collaborative and cross-disciplinary learning through communities of practice. To build your professional experience in secondary teaching, you will also undertake 60 days of supervised teaching practice. The flexible structure of this course means you can study through an accelerated 18-month path, or extend your study time over 30 months. You will specialise in two teaching subjects from disciplines that match those studied in your undergraduate degree. Choose from mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, general science, psychology, health education, physical education, outdoor education, technology education, humanities, history, business studies, geography, information technology,  English, arts (visual, media, drama), student welfare, health education, English as an Additional Language (EAL), vocational education and training (VET) and  English as an additional language and student well -being (LOTE). During your last semester, you will develop your research skills and undertake a practitioner project , thereby building a pathway to further research studies in education. This course is accredited against national standards by the Victorian Institute of Teaching. Upon course completion each student's academic record is released to VIT for teacher registration purposes. Students who do not want their academic record released to VIT must notify their Course co-ordinator in writing or email before the end of teaching in their last subject.
